Functions
The REACH GIS Assistant is responsible for completing the following tasks:
1. Database management:
• Design, centralise/compile and update GIS and general datasets.
• Enter and analyze data as well as help with reporting.
• Manage the spatial datasets, and verify and update collected data.
• Maintain extremely high level of organization and document all methodologies used.
• REACH workload permitting; provide necessary data to coordination and ACTED host community programme.
2. Supervision and monitoring of data collection:
• Conceptualize methodologies for collecting GPS and other GIS related data, if necessary.
• Organise and supervise GIS field missions.
• Monitor the accuracy of collected data and the proper link between GIS data and databases.
3. Preparation, conception and production of maps:
• Identify map information needs and sources of map information.
• Collect and stores metadata for all spatial information.
• Ensure that REACH project staff collects the necessary information to permit creation of maps by liaising and coordinating with REACH project staff.
• REACH workload permitting, make maps for external agencies and the ACTED programme department
Required Skills
•Good command of at least one major database technology, (for example: Access, Excel), in addition to good general knowledge of database management
•Good command of GIS software (especially those used by ACTED), such as ESRI ArcGIS. Familiarity with other information and data sources related to GIS to be recommended to REACH for better GIS practices would be an asset.
• Experience working with large scale data management
•Flexibility and adaptability are essential, as well as the ability to plan, take initiative and organize work independently. In addition, impartiality, objectivity and confidentiality are imperative
•The software used for GIS in REACH is in English, in addition to much of the data itself (also occasionally in Arabic). It is necessary at a bare minimum to read and speak enough English to use the software and correctly classify information in English.
•Willingness to learn and capacity to innovate: must be willing to be innovative and develop own capacity.
