The sewing trainer is responsible of adapting the sewing curriculum developed by ACTED to answer the market’s needs and conduct 60 hours of sewing training in the Social Development Centre of Bourj Hammoud for vulnerable Lebanese and Syrian trainees in order to provide them with the needed techniques to allow them enter the job market through working in factories or from home.
Objective:
ACTED is aiming to conduct TVET on sewing and the curriculum was developed based on national specs by ACTED. The module is meant for adult beginners with no previous experience in sewing. The graduated trainees can either set up their own business or seeking employment with the factories. The trainer will be responsible of adapting this already existing curriculum to the actual Lebanese market to match the job seekers profile sewing employees are seeking for before conducting 60 hours of training both theoretical and practical.
Objectives of the training:
- To learn basic principles of sewing.
- To learn how to use sewing machines.
- To learn how to read designs.
- To learn how to apply designs to make clothing and other products.
The training breakdown:
- course overview and description
- introduction to sewing machines and tools
- basic stiches
- basic techniques including but not limited to:درزة , حبكة و التفصيل
- basic sewing exercise
- packaging techniques in factories including ironing
- learning to read patterns
- end of training project for fashion show
Specific Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Review the curriculum and benchmark it with minimum 2 large private sector companies in sewing.
- Benchmark the needs and gaps in the sewing job opportunities in Lebanon.
- Contextualize and update the curriculum and training materials based on the findings to match the Lebanese market context.
- Hand over a finale version of the curriculum and training materials in both English and Arabic.
- Prepare a BoQ for needed materials to be used in the trainings.
- Any other duty that might be necessary for the contextualisation.
- Conduct approximately 60 hours of training in Bourj Hammoud SDC
Deliverables:
Deliverable 1: updated and translated curriculum
Deliverable 2: updated and translated training materials (power point presentations, documents…)
Deliverable 3:BoQ for materials needed to establish solar training lab
Deliverable 4 : conduct 60 hours of trainings(3 hours per day during 20 days)
Timeframe:
Deliverable 1: 15 days for first review and 10 days to adjust after the comments.
Deliverable 2: 15 days for first review and 10 days to adjust after the comments.
Deliverable 3: 15 days for first review and 10 days to adjust after the comments.

Required competencies
- At least 5 years of experience in working in the sewing industry in Lebanon.
- Relevant trainings/certifications within the sewing sector.
- Fluency in Arabic and English required
- The consultant should be familiar with the education system in Lebanon;
- Previous experience in conducting trainings preferred;
