WASH and Shelter Assistant - Engineer only

Assignment

 

The WASH and Shelter Assistant will support the implementation of WASH and shelter activities in the field. The position will assist in conducting technical assessments, drafting Bills of Quantities (BoQs), monitoring contractor works, and supporting supervision of WASH services such as water trucking and rehabilitation of water and sanitation facilities.

Under the Supervision of the Senior Project Officer, the WASH and Shelter Assistant will contribute to ensuring that project activities are implemented according to technical standards, project timelines, and operational requirements.

 

Functions

The WASH and Shelter Assistant will support the implementation and monitoring of WASH and shelter interventions in target areas.

Technical Assessments and Design

Conduct technical assessments of Collective Sites, shelters, and WASH facilities.

Support the preparation of Bills of Quantities (BoQs) and technical documentation for rehabilitation and construction works.

Assist in collecting technical measurements, drawings, and photographic documentation during site visits.

Contribute to the review of technical documents and implementation plans to ensure feasibility and compliance with sector standards.Act responsibly and communicates respectfully with home owners to give a clear and accurate picture of the households’ past, current and future situation.

 

Implementation and Site Supervision

Support monitoring and supervision of contractors during shelter rehabilitation and WASH works.

Conduct regular site visits to ensure works are implemented according to technical specifications and quality standards.

Prepare site visit reports, including progress updates, challenges, and photographic evidence.

Track delivery of construction materials and ensure quantities correspond to project specifications.

WASH Activities Support

Support the monitoring of water trucking activities and ensure compliance with WASH sector standards.

Conduct assessments of water supply systems, sanitation facilities, and hygiene infrastructure within collective sites.

Assist in identifying required repairs or upgrades to water and sanitation infrastructure.

Coordination and Reporting

Liaise with municipal authorities, water establishments, and contractors to facilitate implementation of activities.

Support coordination with sector partners and relevant authorities to ensure alignment with project objectives.

Contribute to the preparation of technical reports and updates for internal monitoring and donor reporting.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.

Previous internship or limited experience in construction, shelter, or WASH infrastructure projects is an asset.

Basic knowledge of construction supervision, BoQ preparation, and technical assessments.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Good organizational skills and attention to detail.

Ability to prepare clear technical reports and documentation.

Interest in humanitarian work and engagement with local communities.

Ability to work with culturally diverse groups of people.

 

Languages

Spoken Arabic is required.

Spoken and written English is strongly preferred.
