Data Analyst (Emergency Cash Assistance, Food Security and Livelihoods & Nutrition)

You'll contribute to ending world hunger by ...

  • Support in the Implementation of a functional MEAL system at field level, so, the officer is going to monitor and evaluate all projects’ interventions.
  • Gathering data by visiting (households, municipality, or any other related) to support the continuous Action Against Hunger MEAL covering different sectors.
  • Conducting ad hoc assessment interviews at different levels according to the request from the direct supervisor and following new arrival trends and program impact assessment needs
  • Collaborate in the design of assessments ad hoc interviews and methodology.
  • Conducting focus groups discussions 
  • Communicating with beneficiaries, listening to them, receiving their complaints through hotline, field visits, and other complaints and feedback mechanisms, processing them and then responding to beneficiary feedback and communicating progress back to beneficiaries
  • Collecting, analyzing and presenting quantitative and qualitative data by writing accurate and qualitative reports and ensure submitting them on time
  • Checking the quality of collected data by using triangulation phenomenon
  • Supporting in data entry task.

Key activities in your role will include

Objective 1: Prepare the assessments (5%)

  • Make the necessary arrangements before the assessment (call group participants, check access to areas, set times, check availability, etc…) 
  • Coordinate with the logistics staff (drivers) about the location of new places, households and interviews 
  • Look for suitable places to conduct the interview when there are specific needs to bear in mind (privacy, confidentiality of information, etc...) 

Objective 2: Regular monitoring: Record information on the data collecting tool and keep it confidential (20%)

  • Conducting confidential data collection activities using a tablet/other tools. 
  • Ensuring that all data captured is kept physically secure at all times.

Objective 3: Data Analysis (20%)

  • Analyzing data after checking its quality by cleaning it.
  • Focus on the observation

Objective 4: Accountability (15%)

  • Maintain regular contact with beneficiaries, community leaders, municipality representatives and other (I)NGOs, inviting them to participate in monitoring and assessment processes and sharing the results with them
  • Inform target beneficiaries of their rights, the intended results and impact of the project, the monitoring and evaluation processes, and the feedback and complaints Mechanism of ACF International.

Objective 5: Learning (5%)

  • Assist the project team and partners in documenting lessons learnt
  • Support the implementation of reviews and learning events at project locations, if it is needed

Objective 6: Reporting (written and verbal): Giving feedback based on observation and report writing (20%)

Tasks for reporting (verbal)

  • Report continuously the progress of the activities and assessments to his/her line manager
  • Report weekly on all the activities related to assessment and data collection
  • Regular oral reporting, debriefing and feedback to the M&E coordinator and the Head of Base and/or Heads of Projects (where necessary).

Tasks for reporting (written)

  • After collecting, cleaning and analyzing data; a report must be written by the data analyst and shared with technical departments.
  • Reports also depend on observation

Objective 7: Co-ordination (5%)

  • Participate in daily meetings before leaving for field when necessary
  • Work closely with WASH, Shelter, Nutrition, ECA Field Officers and supervisors for data collection execution
  • Communicate aims and objectives of the study with community and respondents
  • Establish a good understanding of the program within the Community

Objective 8: Security (5%)

  • Respect the security rules specified in the mission and base security plan, see to it that the team under his/her responsibility complies with the security plan and perform the security management tasks that can be assigned in its protocols.
  • Communicate to the security managers of the working location any security related information or noncompliance with the security plan

Objective 9: Support humanitarian activities of Action Against Hunger (5%)

  • Support the emergency interventions of the organization as per the employee’s abilities.
  • Support any activity that helps reaching our humanitarian goals, as per the employee’s abilities.
  • Promote gender equality and protection mainstreaming within the humanitarian and/or development work

 

Do you meet the profile required criteria?

Training/ Education:

University Degree in social sciences or other related fields

Specific technical knowledge:

  • Good knowledge of the region (Beirut) to facilitate the visits
  • Acceptance for the principles, charter and objectives of Action Against Hunger
  • Good understanding and knowledge of the humanitarian principles and acquiring the right concept concerning general principles related to NGOs’ work. 
  • Experience in coordinating the process of data collection and that in addition to experience in managing and preserving the data through Android device 
  • Ability to clean, analyze and report writing 
  • Good working knowledge of statistical packages (Excel, etc.)
  • Good knowledge in data collection
  • Ability to lead and train casual workers
  • Capacity for receiving, processing and responding to beneficiaries through hotline, field visits, and other complaints and feedback mechanisms. Then, communicating progress back to beneficiaries
  • Ability to ensure that critical MEAL findings and recommendations are discussed and addressed by management

Key characteristics: 

  • Organized, available, good learner, diplomatic and able to work as a part of the team. On the other hand, the officer must have the ability to take initiative and work independently when needed
  • Good communicator, so he/she interacts well with refugees and vulnerable population  
  • Serious, rigorous, calm, patient, organized and open-minded
  • Flexible with respect to job priority     

Previous experience:

  • Minimum one year of experience in working in a relief or development NGO with a focus on MEAL processes
  • Previous field experience in the following things: Assessments, Data gathering, Interviews and Information triangulation/verification 
  • Knowledge acquired in any of the following fields: Food Security and Livelihoods, WASH/ Shelter and Emergency Cash Assistance

Humanitarian sector knowledge:

Good understanding and knowledge of the humanitarian principles 

Action Against the Hunger knowledge:

Acceptance for the principles, charter and objectives of Action Against Hunger

Languages:

Able to work in BOTH Arabic and English (spoken, written and read) 

IT and specific systems:

Previous experience in collecting and managing data through Android device

Previous experience in excel
