Under the supervision of Head of Base Tyre and the Nutrition supervisor , the Nutrition Field Officer is responsible for planning, implementing and monitoring nutrition activities, with a particular focus on awareness sessions about breastfeeding, complementary feeding, prevention of malnutrition, child care practices, and child development, together with support/ referrals for those with difficulties and special vulnerabilities. He/ she will also contribute to the development of strategies to promote and protect breastfeeding in health/ social facilities , while ensuring proper coordination and collaboration with municipalities, other authorities, beneficiaries and related Action Against Hunger departments. The position requires field work and movement in South Governate.
POSITION SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES AND TASKS.
Objective 1 – Conduct needs analysis and help design and adapt program approaches to meet those needs (10%)
- In collaboration with the Nutrition supervisor, the Nutritionist Field officer will assess current IYCF, nutrition and care practices amongst the targeted communities, and identifying key practices and barriers to optimal practice that need to be addressed
- S/he will identify vulnerable communities and health facilities to be prioritized for IYCF support and promotion.
- S/he will support analysis of gaps in IYCF knowledge among health facility staff
Objective 2 – Carry out behavior change sessions & support for IYCF & nutrition (40%)
- S/he will help design and deliver dynamic behavior change sessions with community members, particularly parents of infants and young children, on nutrition, hygiene and care practices at community and health facility level.
- S/he will also conduct individual assessments, one-to-one counselling and referral and follow-up, as appropriate, at community level and health facility and Social Development Centre (SDC) level.
Objective 3 – Support health facilities and Social Development Centres to promote infant & young child feeding, nutrition and health (30%)
- S/he will help design and deliver dynamic trainings for health facility staff on infant and young child feeding, nutrition, hygiene and care practices
- S/he will continually follow up post training to determine additional training needs and coach staff
- S/he will support the assessment of capacity gaps at SDC / PHCC level for effective promotion of IYCF and within maternal and child health and nutrition services.
- S/he will work in collaboration with SDC/ PHCC staff and other stakeholders to address any capacity gaps e.g via further training or support.
- S/he will strengthen the system for identifying, referring and following up cases that require specialized services for IYCF or related support.
Objective 5: Support other key stakeholders/ civil society members to promotion IYCF, nutrition and relevant caring practices. (10%)
- S/he will help design and deliver dynamic trainings for other key stakeholders/ civil society members on infant and young child feeding, nutrition, hygiene and care practices
- S/he will identify and support volunteers within the trained civil society members to disseminate Nutrition and Young Child Feeding Practices Information in the targeted communities.
Objective 6 – Support coordination, monitoring and reporting (10%)
- S/he will help build relationships between Action Against Hunger, district authorities, municipalities, other NGOs and social development centres and/or primary health care centers and volunteers.
- S/he will be responsible for reporting on work, activities implemented in the field and collect and do basic analysis of key project data.
- S/he will report the challenges faced through the implementation process and provide possible solutions relevant to the context and culture.
Security
- Respect the security rules specified in the mission and base security plan, see to it that the team under his/her responsibility complies with the security plan and perform the security management tasks that can be assigned in its protocols.
- Communicate to the security managers of the working location any security related information or noncompliance with the security plan
- Support humanitarian activities of Action Against Hunger
- Support the emergency interventions of the organization as per the employee’s abilities.
- Support any activity that helps reaching our humanitarian goals, as per the employee’s abilities.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Training/ Education: Bachelor of Science in Nutrition, Dietetics or relevant degree in health sciences.
Technical specific knowledge: Knowledge of nutrition and public health, particularly infant and young child feeding/ breastfeeding
Previous experience:
- 1-3 years of experience working in nutrition at community or health facility level.
- 1 year of experience conducting training or community awareness sessions
- Experience in working with the response to the Syrian crisis especially in Lebanon.
Humanitarian sector knowledge: Good team worker, good listener, high communication skills, good animator and facilitator.
Action Against Hunger knowledge: Mandate, Programs
Languages: Working language in English written and speaking. Good Arabic.
IT and specific systems:
- Good command of MS Office, compulsory expertise in Excel.

REMUNERATION PACKAGE:

Salary: from 1,885,000 LBP to 2,349,000 LBP gross per month according to candidate’s previous experience (according to standard list of Action Against Hunger - Spain). Action Against Hunger - Spain remuneration system allows a salary progression based on the annual development appraisal.
