Assignment: Participate to the assessments on IYCF practices and identification of implementing sites. Support and monitor the implementation of nutrition and psychosocial activities provided to beneficiaries
Required skills: Sense of confidentiality – Skilled activity leader - Good listening, good communication and adaptation capacity – Good relations with people – Have good empathy and be patient- Speak and write Arabic, fluent English (writing and speaking) highly appreciate. Have a minimum knowledge on infant and young child care practices, including feeding and have the capacity and motivation to learn more in a short space of time.
Objective 1: Needs analysis and adapting approaches to cultural context: Activities : - In collaboration with the psychologist to assess on a regular base IYCF practices among the Syrian refugee community settled in the intervention area. - To determine which are the good practices and the practices that needs improvement among Syrian community.
Objective 2: Implementing nutrition sessions: Activities : - Implement nutrition sessions for the beneficiaries about adequate feeding practices. - Evaluate the level of comprehension of the beneficiaries. - Participate to any other nutrition activities who could be identify according to the beneficiaries needs or linked to the nutritional situation.
Objective 3: Organize discussion groups and working groups with the beneficiaries about Breastfeeding and feeding practices: Activities : - Stimulate exchange between beneficiaries in discussion /working groups on a particular theme and make them more dynamic. - Observe and analyse the content of a group session and evaluate it on the basis of an evaluation grid - Receive and restrain expressions of strong emotions.
Objective 4: Implementing techniques to facilitate breastfeeding practices Activities : - Increase breast milk production - Re-lactation after stop breastfeeding - Training and supervision of manual expression of breast milk
Objective 5: Participate in collecting information on the beneficiaries’ needs in terms of psychosocial and mental health Activities : - Be capable of identifying the most vulnerable groups of individuals in need of psychological help. - Observe and collect information during the programme activity sessions on the beneficiaries’ needs in terms of mental health. - Include this information systematically in each activity report.
Objective 6 : Regular screening in intervention area Activities : - With the assistance of your team, check the children’s state of health, monitor their growth, measure the MUAC and test for oedema. - Inform the parents of the nutritional status of their child. - Refer malnourish cases to the nearest Primary Health Care (PHC) centres or the Hospital.
Objective 7: Reporting Activities : - Participate to creation/revision of project tools - Realize a weekly and monthly report - Participate to external reports if needed - If required, attend meetings with other nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) on the one hand, to inform them of ACF work on nutrition and, on the other hand, to be informed of the progress of other NGOs in this field.
Due to the emergency context, the nutritionist can be requested to participate to any other nutrition activities who could be identify according to the beneficiaries needs and the humanitarian situation
