Nutrition Response Officer

Under the supervision of Emergency response advisor, with the technical support of the FSL-Nutrition Supervisor, the Field Officer will be responsible for planning, implementing and monitoring nutrition activities, with a particular focus on group awareness sessions and community campaigns with Syrian refugee mothers, fathers and grandmothers in settlement context. Sessions and campaigns cover topics on breastfeeding, complementary feeding, malnutrition, vaccination as well as hygiene and sanitation of mother and child.

The officer will also work within the LPC team to implement the daily field activities related to nutrition  for the project under the supervision of the Emergency Response Advisor and deliver objectives and tasks on-time and to a high quality and work with the team in a highly efficient manner, prioritizing needs and targets, and reporting in a clear and concise manner on the progress of these activities.

Key activities in your role will include

Objective 1: Planning and Delivery of Nutrition and HP sessions under the Protection Response Plans (50%)

S/he will work with the CPA teams to support in the design of the Protection Response Plan hard and soft components related to Nutrition and Hygiene

S/he will tailor and define the method of response for individuals, households, and communities specific and contextual needs.

S/he will coordinate with line manger regarding locations to implement group sessions and campaigns based on reported data (from NCPs)

S/he will coordinate and obtain all necessary approvals from authorities, municipalities, and community leaders to implement activities in allotted areas/settlements and maintain relationships

S/he will organize and plan group sessions through relevant-Syrian refugee mothers, fathers, and grandmothers

S/he will register and record all relevant data regarding the beneficiaries and the sessions before and after conducting sessions and campaigns

S/he will conduct group sessions with Syrian refugee mothers and campaigns with fathers and grandmothers on optimal infant feeding practices as well as hygiene and sanitation topics

S/he will stimulate the exchange between the beneficiaries in discussion on a particular theme and ensure the discussions are participatory and dynamic

S/he will participate in any other health promotion activity that could be identified based on the beneficiaries needs or linked to the nutritional and hygiene context

Objective 2: Response to Emergency and Acute Unmet Needs (30%)

S/he will ensure the delivery of identified services and programming under the different response modalities (Emergency, Acute Unmet Needs, and Protection Response Plans) to the highest quality and standard

S/he will conduct multi-sectoral needs assessment to identify needs and plan for a multi-sectoral integrated response

S/he will ensure Action Against Hunger WASH/Shelter response is aligned with technical humanitarian standards and coordinated with other departments and organizations

S/he will provide daily oversight of response modality service delivery directly at the field level, ensuring correct compliance with means of verification and reporting

S/he will communicate and coordinate with communities, municipality focal points, and other relevant field level actors on the daily implementation of tasks.

S/he will work with other Action Against Hunger team members to provide accurate and timely assistance to identified participants in the programme

Objective 3: Data recording, data entry, and reporting (10 %)

S/he will register and record all relevant data regarding the beneficiaries and the sessions before and after conducting sessions, on-field

S/he will be responsible for conducting the relevant assessments required for the project and activities implementation (including pre and post-tests)

S/he will transfer all data on hard copies to soft copies

S/he will be responsible for reporting the work and activities implemented in the field, highlighting sub-optimal practices that may increase beneficiaries’ vulnerability

S/he will report the challenges faced through the implementation process and provide possible solutions relevant to the context and culture through narrative reporting

S/he will make relevant recommendations and lessons learned based on field experience, aiming to improve curricula and activities planned

S/he will seek technical support on nutrition, malnutrition, infant and young child feeding practices, water, sanitation, hygiene and health promotion from technical supervisor and other departments, as needed

Objective 4:Referrals (10%)

S/he will observe and collect information during the programme activity sessions on the beneficiaries’ needs and vulnerabilities

S/he will identify protection-related needs and make prompt referrals, as needed, as per Action Against Hunger referral pathway

S/he will identify the cases in need for IYCF/PSS individual counselling and refer them to the Nutrition team

S/he will apply a protection lens throughout the process in order to detect protection needs and refer to the appropriate actor (either within ACF or external referral)

Objective 5: Security

S/he will respect the security rules specified in the mission and base security plan, complying with the security plan and perform the security management tasks that can be assigned in its protocols

S/he will communicate to the security managers of the working location any security related information or noncompliance with the security plan

Objective 6: Support humanitarian activities of Action Against Hunger

S/he will support the emergency interventions of the organization, as requested, as per the employee’s abilities

S/he will support any activity that helps reaching our humanitarian goals, as per the employee’s abilities

S/he will promote gender equality within the humanitarian and/or development work

Do you meet the profile required criteria?

Training/ Education:

Bachelor of Science in Public Health OR Health Promotion OR Nutrition and Dietetics or relevant degree.

Technical specific knowledge:

Knowledge on infant and young child feeding, water, hygiene, and sanitation, health promotion, nutrition during the life cycle, acute malnutrition, chronic undernutrition, child development and micronutrient deficiencies

Additional knowledge regarding the alignment of nutrition with maternal and child health, mental health, and food security and livelihoods programs

Previous experience:

1-3 years of experience working in community nutrition, health promotion, especially in infant young child feeding practices and/or hygiene promotion or hygiene experience

Experience in working with the response to the Syrian crisis especially in informal-tented settlements in Lebanon.

Humanitarian sector knowledge:

Good team work, good listener, high communication skills, good animator and facilitator

Languages:

Working language in English written and speaking; Native Arabic speaker

IT and specific systems:

Good command of MS Office, especially Work and Excel

Mobility (national/ international)

Bekaa with frequent movement to Arsal
