Pedagogical Expert, Citizenship & Coexistence Education

  Purpose The School Education on Coexistence Department at Adyan is recruiting an experienced Pedagogical Expert to lead the design and implementation of the department’s strategy and pedagogical material development in its non-formal education and national policy- reform programs. Organizational Background Adyan is an independent non-governmental organization working in the field of intercultural and interreligious dialogue and understanding and promoting coexistence and inclusive citizenship in pluralistic societies. The School Education on Coexistence Department (“SEC-D”) at Adyan works for the integration of education on religious pluralism, citizenship and coexistence in Lebanese schools. The department operates on different levels and areas of work: Development of pedagogical materials on citizenship, religious pluralism and coexistence. Youth empowerment as active citizens in the peace-building process. Vocational training for youth educators to equip them with needed skills and competences of education on citizenship and religious pluralism. Public reform program targeting the Lebanese educational policies in relation with citizenship and coexistence education. Research and publications on education on citizenship and coexistence.   Main Responsibilities The Pedagogical Expert will: Be responsible for the pedagogical coordination of the national textbooks development in cooperation with the Centre for Educational research and Development (CERD). Lead the development of the vocational training strategy and plan and of the training program for the Lebanese educators in collaboration with the Lebanese Ministry of Education and CERD. Lead the development of pedagogical materials and content related to the non-formal education programs, mainly the Alwan School Program’s Training Guide. Contribute to the development of the SEC-D’s strategy and planning of educational policies based on the evaluation of its current educational projects and founding documents. Contribute to the identification of experts in citizenship education, religious pluralism, community-based education, vocational education, and coordinate with the experts appointed by Adyan for pedagogical development. Conduct research and contribute to the conceptual and methodological development in the subject areas, and teaching techniques. Collaborate with the SEC-D’s management team in the design and implementation of workshops, seminars and trainings in the area. May be asked to provide support to educators on subject areas and teaching methodologies within the field programs.   Reporting Relationships and Protocol of Communication The Pedagogical Expert reports to the SEC-D’s programs manager and participates to regular meetings with the department’s team.   REQUIREMENTS Education and experience Advanced university degree in Education or a related field in Humanities, Religious Studies or Social Sciences with interest and familiarity about citizenship issues and cultural diversity. A minimum of 5 years work experience in pedagogical content development and / or education policies development in the areas of Citizenship, peacebuilding and/or religious diversity education. Excellent command of spoken and written English and Arabic; French is a plus.
