A REGIONAL COMMUNICATION OFFICER - MIDDLE EAST

Under the responsibility of the Communication Division in our Paris headquarters and the Regional Director for the Middle East, the Communication Officer will have the following specific missions:

  • To develop, pilot and update the regional communication strategy and action plan, in conjunction with AFD agencies in Lebanon, Jordan, the Palestinian Territories and Iraq;
  •  To design, update and disseminate our agencies’ communication documents, including operational communication;
  • To help identifying and bringing out communication actions, to be a force of proposals to the agencies;
  • To support our agencies in the region in the communication tasks they are required to carry out (development of concept notes on possible initiatives, design of ad hoc supports, interviews, etc.);
  • To update and regularly feed the web portal of our country agencies;
  • To contribute to the animation of AFD's Facebook and Twitter accounts;
  • To build AFD's "narrative" in the region, and for each country: identify emblematic projects to be promoted locally and internationally - including in collaboration with professional photographers to develop “storytelling images”;
  • To identify and maintain relations with representatives of local media (written press, radio and TV and French media correspondents) and organize regular meetings, with the operational teams in particular;
  • To ensure the dissemination of AFD news to the "France team", in particular to the embassy press service;
  • To keep a watch on articles published in the local press;
  • To design and pilot communication actions, including events (for example around the celebration of AFD's 20 years of presence in the region), “world days”, official visits, inauguration of projects, etc.;
  • To promote our colleagues' participation in local events (conferences, debates, etc.) on topics that are important for AFD;
  • To valorize locally AFD publications in connection with the activity of the agencies;
  • To write event press releases and language elements for speeches or interventions of the Regional Director, Country Directors, and Ambassadors, when they are related to AFD's action in the Middle East, in the media, during travel and at conferences.
  • To monitor the communication actions’ budget.

The communication officer will also have the possibility to propose other communication actions and put them in place if AFD is in favor.

Due to the nature of its activity and the level of interlocutors of the agency, AFD expects from its agents a high level of professionalism in the performance of their duties. This translates into a real personal commitment on a daily basis and a strong requirement in the accomplishment of the work. This position will involve missions abroad, including the countries of the Middle-East region and France.

Expected experience and profile:

• Higher education.
• Proven experience (references requested) in the design and production of communication strategies, action plans and tools, as well as the organization of public events, if possible in a development and international cooperation structure (international organization, NGO, foundation, etc.)
• Significant interest in development issues (economic, social, environmental).
• Excellent writing skills (references requested).
• Ability to manage transversal projects, organization of events and coordination of various interlocutors.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Sense of pedagogy and advice.
• Autonomy, strength of proposal and initiative.
• Ability to work in a hurry, manage priorities.
• Abilities in French, English and classical Arabic, both oral and written. Speaking Near-East dialectal Arabic would be appreciated.
• Excellent knowledge of the development ecosystem.
