Project Overview

Akkar Network for Development (AND) has been working in Akkar for more than 5 years with women, youth and local authorities to promote the well-being of the community. In addition to other interventions in the area AND is currently working on youth empowerment and inclusion in the public sphere, especially in the most deprived areas of Akkar by providing extra-curricular activities, initiating youth dialogue with local authorities, along with skills building.

In partnership with UNICEF, AND established the innovation labs-GIL to support Akkar youth, combining creativity, innovation, learning, mentorship, and exposure to new technology. The trainings of the innovation labs shall help youth broaden their horizons, develop their entrepreneurial skills, and potentially, open new opportunities, thus improving their livelihoods. Accordingly, AND will provide English language lessons to interested youth at the Innovation labs.

The main task to be completed by the English language teacher shall be:

The main responsibility of the English language teacher is to help the students understand English, speak it and be able to write and read it. Duties will range from the preparation of course work, planning of classes and the marking of work handed in. Support in arranging extracurricular activities might be requested along with setting targets for the lab trainees. More specifically the English language tutor will be in charge of the following:

  • Developing English lesson plans in line with the national curriculum.
  • Organizing and delivering classroom lectures to students.
  • Evaluating a students' class work and assignments.
  • Preparing classroom in creative manners and coursework materials, homework assignments, and handouts.
  • Recording and maintaining accurate student attendance records.
  •  Recording and maintain accurate student attendance records and grades.
  • Classroom management.
  • Maintaining discipline in the classroom.
  • Creating a vibrant teaching atmosphere.

Required Skills:

  • Communication Skills: You must be able to speak clearly to trainees, lab colleagues and donors
  • Instruction Skills: You will have to explain new ideas and unfamiliar concepts with authority and concisely so that trainees can understand. You must work to keep the trainees' attention
  • Writing Skills: Teachers write progress reports, notes…
  • Patience: The trainees have different backgrounds and abilities. Patience will help teachers deal with trainees who act out or have trouble following the material.
  • Creativity: Teachers have to find ways to involve trainees into their lessons. Additionally, teachers may have to work with different learning styles to get the most out of each trainee.
  • People Skills: Engaging the lab community and creating healthy relationships with trainees will help create a quality learning environment.

 

Deliverables

The provider of services shall be responsible for the following deliverables.

  1. Training Cycle Program
  2. Training Curriculum  
  3. Final Appraisal at the end of the training cycle.

 

Reporting

The English language teacher shall report to the project manager.
