Civil Engineer

JOB DESCRIPTION Akkarouna Lebanon is recruiting a full-time Local Civil Engineer to be involved in the implementation of a project in support to Syrian Refugees mainly in Zgharta, Miniyeh, Dennieh or in any other area depending on Akkarouna’s needs. The project’s plan includes shelter repairs and technical assessments. Specific duties: 1)    The Local Engineer collaborates with the project manager, in line management with the program coordinator in the implementation of the projectsin terms of: Collecting all the needed data and/or information related to the projects; Performing detailed needs assessment of shelter needs, and water and sanitation situation, Woodwork, Aluminium work, electrical work and recommending appropriate interventions to improve their living conditions; Finalizing all the needed agreements among the concerned actors (e.g. akkarouna, beneficiaries and tenants and/or any other potential stakeholder involved during the implementation of the projects); Procurement activities (including preparation of technical specifications and Bill of Quantities for supply and works contracts); Performing timely supervision visits to all project sites under construction to ensure that works are done according to the design and mistakes are promptly corrected and a report made to Akkarouna project manager. 2)    The Local Engineer has to be the key field staff in charge of: Organization and monitoring of construction activities in the building sites, including detailed needs assessment; Checking the quality of each material that have to be utilized for the implementation of the works before their installation in order to ensure the following up of the technical specifications of the works provided by akkarouna and to strictly follow the akkarouna project manager advices; Preparing weekly progress reports (e.g. measurements of the performed works); 3)    The Local Engineer is involved in the co-ordination with all actors related to the implementation of the project; 4)    The Local Engineer is responsible for documentation of all conducted activities; 5)    The Local Project Coordinator is responsible to follow all the instructions and the pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job; 6)    Other duties as may be assigned by the Project Manager and agreed upon. Qualifications and skills: University degree in civil engineering At least 1-2 years of Works sites experience Excellent computer skills Excellent knowledge of English and Arabic languages, both oral and written Valid Driving License and ability to drive Previous experience in working with national/international NGOs is an advantage Personal qualities: Ability to work both independently and as a team member Excellent communications skills Ability to work in different cultural environments   Experience required:  1 to 2 years Experience with NGO, INGO, UNHCR / UNRWA highly appreciated Previous experience in shelter rehabilitation highly appreciated
