Educational Assistant

  “Youth for Tomorrow” Project, implemented by Akkarouna with support from Mercy Corps (MC), focuses on helping host and refugee community adolescents, in targeted areas in Tripoli to cope with numerous stresses. The decisions they make now will have a profound long-term impact on their lives; thus it is essential to equip adolescents with the tools to make sound judgment in order to have a healthy and productive future. “Youth for tomorrow” aims to achieve the following: -       Adolescents and youth have improved psychosocial and emotional wellbeing. -       Adolescents and youth are better prepared to enter the workforce with enhanced technical skills and improved awareness of labour market realities -       Diverse groups build positive inter-community relationships by working together to promote protection and interests of adolescents and youth. -       Civil Society has increased capacity to serve the needs of youth. The role of the Akkarouna Youth for Tomorrow Education assistant is mainly to: Main duties & responsibilities: -       Diagnose learning needs of the youth. -       Discuss youth’s state of vulnerability. -       Supervise the respect of the Child Protection Policy in the center. -       Assist in preparing materials, creating displays and undertaking other supportive activities. -       Evaluate youth progress. -       Assist in setting the center schedule. -       Share youth concerns alongside with the youth council with the center coordinator. -       Apply session monitoring to make sure that the set curriculum is being accomplished. -       Advice coaches regarding curriculum and dealing with youth. -       Contribute to ongoing assessment and data collection through observation. -       Promote the safety and wellbeing of youth in the center. -       Assist in the organization and implementation of awareness sessions for children, parents and communities at large. -       Facilitate, collect and report information regarding the overall situation of the youth and their families in the community, with specific attention paid to the programme targeted youth and programme objectives. -       Support quality implementation of the education activities through being actively present at the center. -       Support the center coordinator in management of the center coaches -       The educational assistant will give training on curricula for coaches or any other related trainings -       Any other related tasks as needed   Monitoring and Evaluation:   -       Participate in regular monitoring and evaluation activities of the Education in Youth for tomorrow program. -       Produce timely reports for internal use on the activities in each session, highlighting challenges, best practices and lessons learnt. -       Maintain records, reports problems or concerns to Center Coordinator.   Adherence to the Project’s policies and procedures   -       Comply with the Youth for Tomorrow policies and practice with respect to child protection, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures.   QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE   -       At least two years’ experience in education, preferably in an (I) NGO environment or educational setting. Prior teaching experience is an asset. -       Bachelor’s degree in Education, Development/Humanitarian Studies or Social Science. -       Ability to analyse information, evaluate options and to plan strategically. -       Strength in interpersonal, communication and presentation skills. -       Fluency in written and spoken English. -       Flexibility and willingness to change work practices and hours and capability to work in insecure volatile environment. -       Commitment  to  and  understanding  of  Youth for tomorrow’s  aims,  values  and principles  including rights-based approaches.   Mercy Corps is a leading global humanitarian agency saving and improving lives in the world’s toughest places. Mercy Corps has joined the No Lost Generation campaign to mitigate the devastating impact of the Syria crisis on children and young people for Lebanese, Palestinian and Syrian in host and refugee communities. In order to prevent alarming long-term consequences of an entire generation, Mercy Corps’ programming aims to nurture the intellectual and emotional growth of adolescents during this pivotal time in their life to become resilient to the deteriorating economic and political conditions around them.  Akkarouna is one of the local active organizations that was established in 2010; that fights local poverty and try to raise moral, behavioral and environmental awareness and shedding light on natural and human resources. It also seeks to involve youth in various types of activities. Akkarouna aims at enhancing the role of the youth and adults in public life without discrimination in the community. In fact, it ensures their involvement in various types of activities and programs to keep them away from delinquency and the tendency of violence. The association works on raising the moral, behavioral and environmental awareness; thus, uniting communities together to grow stronger towards the same objectives and erasing ignorance. It also works on fighting local poverty to decrease the gaps and in equalities between all the communal levels. Hence, it works on developing the quality and standards of the society.
