Responsibilities: 

  • Identify safe spaces to provide sessions, meetings that adhere to the quality checklists for center-based and outreach activities shared at the inter-agency level
  •  Ensure CB PSS is delivered in line with global minimum standards and national inter-agency SOPs/standards
  • Provide guidance to partner staff on the implementation of the monitoring and vulnerability assessment tools.
  • Identify Community Focal Points and members of Community Based Groups to deliver CB PSS as facilitators
  • Provide coaching, mentoring and training to CB PSS Facilitators during a 2-month training program on CB PSS curriculum for children and caregivers
  • Deliver CB PSS to children and caregivers as part of the CB PSS Facilitators 2-month training program. Successively handing over the direct facilitation of sessions to the facilitator
  • Contribute to the capacity building of partner staff on protection related old age programming.
  •  Follow-up on the capacity building of CB PSS Facilitators’ facilitation skills, adult and child learning and development basic principles and developing new sessions throughout the year using the methodology provided by the Community Based PSS sub- committee and incorporating key CP and GBV messages as necessary
  •  Ensure CB PSS Facilitators, Community Based Groups identify and refer children in and caregivers in need of Focused PSS to relevant Focused PSS sessions
  •  Ensure the CB PSS Facilitators are trained to adapt activities and methodologies and take the needed steps to include children with special needs
  • Review the training and coaching plan together with the Facilitator and agree on areas in need of strengthening on a weekly basis during the first month of the training program and on the final session during the second month of the training program
  • Determine the readiness of the community Facilitator to implement independently
  •  Update the capacity building plan of Facilitators on a monthly basis
  •  Continue to provide support to community based groups to conduct sensitization sessions and events on child protection keymessages in a participatory and empowering manner
  • Ensure the proper documentation of data collected (hard and soft copies) during CB PSS (attendance sheets, permission slips, parental consent, referrals etc.)
  •  Attend protection related meetings as necessary.
  • Maintain positive relations with local implementing actors, local authorities and other international and local stakeholders;
  •  Deliver Parenting curriculum to caregivers of children attending focused PSS
  • Perform any other duties relating to the nature of the job as directed by the protection coordinator, with weekly reports and success stories
  • Establish and maintain the good relationship with the community and the project beneficiaries.
  • Facilitate the committees’ meetings, workshops and capacity building events
  • Explain clearly and transparently the project objectives, activities, scope of work, implementation methodology and the selection criteria to the community.
  • Conduct the MoU signing sessions with the beneficiaries individually. This includes full and transparent explanation to all articles and annexes.
  • Ensure that all MoUs are signed and properly archived in the beneficiary files.
  • Act as a link between the contractor and the beneficiary during the execution of works phase and solve any problem that may arise at the time.
  • Organize and conduct the awareness sessions with the community
  • Receive the complaints from the hotline, follow up on them and take the appropriate action (referral to the technical team, to other NGOs, etc...)
  • Work with the target beneficiaries to identify needs and gaps in service delivery
  • With the guidance of the Protection Coordinator, develop and implement innovative protection activities and systems in accordance with the protection program
  • Work with the beneficiaries in community mobilization, by creating and training committees and other means as necessary.
  • Work with different groups to ensure that their protection-related needs are identified and addressed as far as possible through tailored activities for the most vulnerable
  • In collaboration with the Protection coordinator develop and adopt innovative approaches which enable beneficiaries to participate in the implementation of the protection activities.
  • Conduct field monitoring visits and propose recommendations and corrective measures as necessary. 
  •  Support and facilitate the participation of older people and other stakeholders in monitoring and evaluation processes in order to improve organisational accountability to all stakeholders
  • Ensure that communication with stakeholders is maintained to ensure that they know their rights, responsibilities and entitlements..
  • Depending on the size and structure of the Office, the incumbent may have supervisory responsibility for protection staff including community services, registration, resettlement and education. He/she provides functional protection guidance to information management and programme staff; and monitors protection standards, operational procedures and practices in protection delivery in line with international standards.
  •  Protection Officer is expected to: coordinate quality, timely and effective protection responses to the needs of populations of concern; and identify opportunities to mainstream protection methodologies and integrate protection safeguards in operational responses in all sectors. He/she contributes to designing a comprehensive protection strategy and represents the organization externally on protection doctrine and policy as guided by the supervisor.
  • He/she also ensures that persons of concern are involved with the Office in making decisions that affect them, whether in accessing their rights or in identifying appropriate solutions to their problems. To achieve this, the incumbent will need to build and maintain effective interfaces with communities of concern, local authorities and protection and assistance partners.
