Nutrition Community Worker

The Nutrition Community Worker will be responsible of:

  • Share information with the household members on the existing services and programmes, guide and facilitate services During follow-up visits or calls, and provide basic health information about a healthy lifestyle, health recommendations, risks, and prevention opportunities.
  • Ensure that safe identification and referrals are done with transparency and confidentiality efficiency to meet the needs and provide access to needed services.
  • Ensure all data, forms, reports, and necessary documentation are accurate and submitted within established timelines agreed upon with the Supervisor and the project team.
  • Support the implementation of community-based activities within the community or with specific groups if requested, this includes planning, as well as identification and mobilization of groups from the community, to participate in groups health activities.
  • Organize and deliver awareness sessions to parents and caregivers on nutrition and health topics at the center level.
  • Coordinate with existing PHCs in the area and link the community to the PHCs and raise awareness on the services provided.
  • Ensure referral of mothers with maternal health challenges to the PHCs and to IYCF specialists to receive the necessary help.
  •  Refer women with breastfeeding difficulties and in need of IYCF counseling to Lactation Specialists.
  • Refer Children aged between 6 months and 59 months to Nutrition partners to receive micronutrient supplements for the vulnerable children 6-59 months, through outreach at the community level.
  • Organize awareness sessions in the center on the following topics Healthy wellbeing, Healthy diets, obesity and physical activity and immunization.
  • Coordination with active organizations in the area to conduct workshop, interactive session on different topics.
  • Conduct sessions for adolescent girls and boys who received services for the prevention of overweight and obesity.
  • Ensure all activities are accurately documented and tracked.
  • Participate in all capacity building opportunities.

 

Job Requirements:

Academic Qualification

  • University students/ fresh graduates in nutrition or any relevant Bachelor degree,with 1 to 2 years’ experience in a relevant field.

 

Experience & skills

  • The candidate must have a good knowledge and familiarity with the target areas, including local community and population habits and behaviors, public and private stakeholders, focal points or local leaders within the community, concentration of vulnerable population in specific areas.
  • Communication skills: should be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, clearly articulate information, be a good listener and able to establish positive relationships and build trust with people at all levels.
  • Planning skills: should be able to develop and respect work plans, work independently, manage time effectively, meet deadlines.
  • Social consciousness: should be socially aware of the socio-economic situation of the area and how it can affect children’s enrolment in and attendance of education.
