PSS assistant

Job Purpose

 The Child Protection PSS Assistants are responsible for conducting daily psychosocial activities for street and working children.

 These activities include: community-based PSS sessions, life skills sessions, parenting skills sessions, special events and learning activities throughout the year.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Identify safe spaces to provide community-based PSS (CB PSS) that adhere to the quality checklists for center-based and outreach activities shared at the inter-agency level
  • Identify vulnerable children and caregivers in need of PSS sessions in line with inter-agency selection criteria
  • Deliver PSS sessions to children and caregivers.
  • Deliver Parenting curriculum to caregivers of children attending focused PSS
  • Ensure PSS sessions is delivered in line with global minimum standards and national inter-agency SOPs/standards
  • Ensure to identify and refer children and caregivers in need of case management to CP case management on a monthly basis
  • Ensure the proper documentation of data collected (hard and soft copies) during CB PSS (attendance sheets, permission slips, parental consent, referrals etc.)
  • Ensure that ALL children and caregivers accessing PSS sessions and identified as being at high risk are referred to focused PSS and case management
  • Provide technical capacity building on PSS, CP and GBV protection concepts, safe identification and referral and confidentiality and informed consent
  • Follow-up on the capacity building of PSS facilitation skills, adult, child learning, development basic principles, and developing new sessions throughout t using the specific methodology and incorporating key CP and GBV messages as necessary
  • Review the coaching session/plan together with the Officer and agree on areas in need of strengthening on a weekly basis.
  • Maintain positive relations with local implementing actors, local authorities and other international and local stakeholders;
  • Perform any other duties relating to the nature of the job as directed by the Officer and Project coordinator

     

Job Requirements:

Academic Qualification

  • Bachelor Degree in Sociology, Children Psychology, Education or any other related field.

Professional Experience

  • At least 1 to 2 years’ experience in a similar position.
  • Worked in humanitarian settings, specifically in Child Protection or GBV sectors


Skills

  • Spoken and written fluency in English and Arabic. (French is a plus)
  • Good writing skills and highly organized.
  • Excellent knowledge:
  1. Child Protection and GBV minimum standards and basic principles
  2. Child Protection case management
  3. Child and adult development and learning
  4. Psychosocial support basic principles and PSS key messages to vulnerable children and caregivers.
  5. Safe identification and referral principles
  6. Facilitation skills, interpersonal and problem-solving skills, creativity and flexibility
  • Tolerant and capable of handling complex social and humanitarian situations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and networking skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Microsoft Word and Excel and Power Point.
  • Dynamic leader with creative problem-solving skills, particularly in challenging situations.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills.
