Sports for Development Mentor

The job description for a Sports for Development Mentor typically includes the following responsibilities:

1. Mentoring and coaching: Provide guidance and support to individuals or groups participating in sports programs aimed at personal development, social inclusion, and community engagement.
2. Program planning and implementation: Assist in designing and implementing sports-based activities that promote positive youth development, life skills, leadership, teamwork, and healthy lifestyles.
3. Skill development: Teach sports techniques, rules, and strategies to participants while fostering their physical fitness, coordination, and overall athletic abilities.
4. Personal development: Help participants develop self-confidence, resilience, discipline, goal-setting skills, conflict resolution abilities, and other life skills through sports activities.
5. Role modeling: Serve as a positive role model for participants by demonstrating good sportsmanship, fair play, respect for others, integrity, and ethical behavior both on and off the field.
6. Monitoring and evaluation: Track the progress of participants in terms of skill development, personal growth, behavior change, academic performance (if applicable), attendance rates, etc., using appropriate assessment tools.
7. Collaboration: Work closely with other mentors or coaches to ensure a coordinated approach to program delivery while fostering a supportive team environment.
8. Community engagement: Engage with local communities to raise awareness about the benefits of sports for development programs and encourage participation from diverse backgrounds.
9. Safety and well-being: Ensure the safety of participants during sports activities by implementing appropriate risk management measures and adhering to health and safety guidelines.
10. Documentation and reporting: Maintain accurate records of participant attendance, achievements, incidents, or concerns observed during sessions; prepare regular reports on program outcomes.

Knowledge and experience:

  • Bachelor University Degree in Physical Education, Sports Management or Exercise Psychology.
  • Experience in S4D curriculum development (both online and in person)
  • 1 to 2 years or experience in lecturing and giving workshops on sports and sport related topics.
  • Experience of delivering online workshops
  • Experience and knowledge in the Sport for Development (GIZ) methodology.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal (English and Arabic)
  • Passion for sports.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently.
  • Understanding and experience of social emotional learning.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate.
