A Civil Society For Child Rights- Project Officer

Project Over view: A Civil Society for Child Rights in the MENA region is a project led by Save the Children Sweden (SCS) and implemented with the International Bureau for Child Rights (IBCR). The project is funded by the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA). For the past two years the project has been implemented in six Arab countries, and has worked to support and strengthen the capacities of NGOs through the following focus areas: -Analysis and reporting -Coordination and networking -Advocacy -CRC and Child Rights Programming (CRP) mainstreaming In Lebanon, the main partners implementing the project are ALEF and Nabaa (Development Action without borders). Position summary: ALEF in year three of the project cycle will be implementing the following activities: -Map and assess the extent to which targeted CSOs, child rights and development actors integrate CRC and CRP in their work -Receive capacity building training on Child Rights Programming (CRP) from SCS -Implement capacity building workshops in Lebanon for targeted CSOs on CRP -Establish and coordinate an advocacy working group for NGOs on the theme of violence against children in schools -Implement awareness raising campaign targeting teachers in selected public schools on the prohibition of corporal punishment -Lead and participate in lobbying activities targeting child rights stakeholders and policy makers -Attend national events, conferences, and seminar on child rights issues and update reports conducted in year 1 and year 2 of the project with new data. -To lead a NGO coalition alternative reporting activity for Lebanon's upcoming review before the CRC committee -To contribute to and attend a regional best practices workshop organized by SCS and IBCR -To contribute to and attend online and in-person meetings with regional partners on the sustainability of the project -To contribute to an online portal for the project -To disseminate reports conducted in year 1 and year 2 to selected national and international stakeholders Duties and responsibilities : Draft a plan of action for the project -Supervise and coordinate project activities for year three of the project cycle -Suggest new policies and modifications to project plan to ensure efficiency -Participate in meetings, discussions, project trips, workshops and online correspondence with regional partners -Prepare with executive director and program managers proposals for sustainability of the project and assist in raising funds for continuation of ongoing activities past year three; lead bilateral and multilateral strategic planning with Manara partners -Report periodically on progress of the project and keep accurate record of implementation progress -To maintain knowledge of local and International laws and other government directives relating to ALEF main child rights advocacy agenda -To discuss findings and recommendations arising from research findings of year 1 and year 2 with civil society partners and policy makers; lobby for child-friendly and safe schools in Lebanon -To attend and participate in all related workshops, seminars, training and meetings as agreed with the Executive director -To Coordinate with NGO working group and supervise the work of the advocacy network coordinator Profile of the Project Officer: -Excellent management skills -Good research and analytical skills -Good Knowledge in Human Rights field in particular advocacy and the child rights area -Proven experience in similar projects -Good communication skills both written and verbal -Good organizational skills -Strong MS Office Skills -Excellent English skills both written and verbal, excellent verbal Arabic and good written
