(2) Social Worker - Retention Support - Saida

THE PROJECT

This project aims to provide an integrated multisectoral humanitarian response to conflict-affected and displaced populations in Beirut and Mount Lebanon, South Lebanon, and Bekaa, ensuring access to essential health, protection, and education services through community-based and mobile modalities.

Within the education component, the project seeks to enhance access to safe, inclusive, and quality learning opportunities for vulnerable children affected by conflict and displacement in Saida. Education interventions will include center-based educational support activities, as well as Education in Emergencies (EiE) interventions implemented in shelters and displacement settings. The project will also integrate psychosocial support and inclusive approaches to ensure that children with learning difficulties and disabilities can fully participate in educational activities, while contributing to their learning continuity, wellbeing, and resilience.

ASSIGNMENT

The Social worker is based in Amel’s Saida community center with regular visits to the collective shelters. She/He works under the direct supervision of the Field coordinator. She/He is in charge of the overall response to the psychosocial needs of the most vulnerable host and displaced populations living in the Saida area.

TASKS

Task #1: Outreach:

  • Outreaching participants for the project’s activities. The Social Worker, in collaboration with the Field coordinator, has a direct communication with the families and explains in details the goal, activities and requirements for their participation in the project;
  • Following up on the participants’ participation in the projects’ activities in both shelters and center-based activities.

Task #2: Protection:

- To be fully aware of Amel’s Code of Conduct and Safeguarding policies and procedures and to ensure its implementation;

- Maintain positive discipline practices (“child friendly” class management) ensuring that children feel comfortable, safe and respected.

Task #3 – Psycho-social counseling

- Follow-up with the PSS animator on designing a monthly plan to provide psychosocial activities;

- Conduct awareness sessions with children and community members, in addition to conducting focus group discussions and forming children and parents’ committees.

Task #4– Cases identification activities

  • Establish a simple internal referral form for all team members in collaboration with the psychologist, clarify the process with all team members and follow up on the implementation of the internal referral pathways;
  • Observe on a regular basis the project activities to identify cases in collaboration with the psychologist and PSS animator;
  • Identify through focus group discussions the protection needs of the community members.

Task #5– Referral activities

  • Ensure smooth follow up for internal referrals
  • Follow up on cases referred internally by the team members and to other services provided by Amel;
  • Provide the team members with necessary information about the case’s follow up to adapt their practices if necessary.
  • Ensure smooth external referral pathways
  • Develop AMEL’s network in the area to increase opportunities for external referrals with the support of the coordinators;
  • Create a local mapping of the service providers in the area, with the support of the psychologist and focal point if needed;
  • Ensure smooth referral process with external actors (provision of information, follow up with participants, etc.).

Task #6 - Psycho-social counseling

  • Responsible for designing a monthly plan with the team members to provide psychosocial activities;
  • Support the project coordinator in the designing of a PSS curriculum;
  • Conduct weekly awareness sessions with children, parents and community members in collaboration with the psychologist according to the monthly plan;
  • Conduct weekly focus group discussions to address specific issues with children and community members according to the monthly plan.

Task #7 – Community events, Parents and children’s Committees and Campaigns

  • Design and support the team in the implementation of community event activities;
  • Encourage the parents to participate actively in the parents’ committee. The committee will be strongly involved in the design of the activities (ex: events) of the project;
  • Encourage the children to participate actively in the children’s committee. The committee will be strongly involved in the design of the activities (ex: events) of the project.
  • Lead on the large-scale awareness campaigns to be initiated by the parents’ committee to promote on gender equality and equal access to education.

Task #8 – Coordination & Monitoring and Evaluation

Facilitate the internal coordination

  • Project team’s level: coordinate with all team members to ensure that the Child Protection Protocol is followed and that the PSS monthly plan is shared and completed;
  • Take initiative to find collective solutions to challenges due to context / situation changes and adapt the project’s activities according to the retention support project goal (coordination meetings in collaboration with the focal point);
  • Send pictures of the activities on the common WhatsApp group.

Monitoring & Evaluation / reporting

  • Submit weekly reports to the coordinators;
  • Design assessment for evaluating to the project’s impact (ex: wellbeing) in coordination with Child Protection team;
  • Submit other narrative reports such as Focus Group Discussion’s results / community events’ reports / distributions’ reports, etc.

Qualifications, skills and Requirements: 

  • Bachelor degree in social work
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work within multi-cultural environments; ability to work within a team structure or independently, flexible, and can cope with stressful workloads and working with limited resources.
  • At least 3 years practical experience in an educational projects at international or national NGOs.

Working Hours: The Social Worker will work 5 days a week an average of 20 weekly working hours.
