Assistant teacher volunteer

Since April 2012, Amel has been implementing its response to the Syrian crisis to cover the emergency needs of affected populations, mainly in the health, education, protection and livelihood sectors.

Through its education programme, Amel is providing Non-Formal Education activities in two community centers in Beirut (Ain el Remaneh, Haret Hreik). The professional team is composed of teachers, one social worker and one psychologist.

They provide education support to vulnerable children enrolled in public schools. These children, who are mostly Syrian refugees, suffer from strong difficulties which makes their retention at school an important issue.

Three or four times a week, during 3 hours, children come to the center and receive help with their homework.  They attend remedial sessions on specific points, and participate in recreational activities. The social-psychological support is also a crucial component of the project, as many children need to be accompanied.

He/ She will be assigned the following tasks:

The teacher assistant will be assigned to a grade and will support the teacher as well as helping children with their homework. As the Lebanese curriculum is not a reflection of their level, the homework support entails going beyond the completion of homework and insuring their comprehension. The volunteer can help the teacher with the remedial sessions on specific learning difficulties. When children finish their homework, the volunteer can propose some fun activities with children: games, films, arts and crafts, anything that the volunteer might find suitable for his class.
