DRAMA THERAPIST

The Drama Therapist will organize a drama therapy workshop for the girls and women at one of Amel’s safe spaces for girls and women located in Bourj Hammoud, Nabatieh, Kfarhamam, Mashghara, and Douris on a three months’ workshop duration, where 2 workshops will take place in each center during this year. He/she works under the direct supervision of the Field Coordinator and Project Coordinator. He/she is responsible for delivering drama therapy workshops for girls and women. The drama therapy workshop consists of a set of theatre exercises that lead the participants to work on developing their relationship with themselves and their bodies, reinforcing self-esteem and confidence while fostering empathy through the group dynamics.

  • Assessing the needs and priorities of the girls and women.
  • Developing suitable drama therapy programs for beneficiaries based on their needs, and preferred forms of artistic expression.
  • Providing clear objectives on drama therapy for the beneficiaries.
  • Maintaining the workshop and equipment.
  • Conducting 8 drama therapy sessions with beneficiaries using role playing, puppetry, mime, scripted drama, puppetry, theatre improvisation exercises as well as exercises focusing on corporal rhythm, body awareness, voice, perception of the space, association of ideas, creation of physical images, creative writing, character creation, and scene building.
  • Teaching beneficiaries coping skills and strategies to enable them to deal with challenging and traumatic experiences.
  • Developing with the participants a Theater Play that will be presented at the end of the workshop.
  • Providing technical support for the beneficiaries while representing the Theater Play
  • Referring safely the beneficiaries to Amel’s caseworkers and psychotherapists when needed.
  • Preparing and submitting a final report covering detailed records of beneficiaries' progress as well as observations made during drama therapy sessions.

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent related to Psychology, dramatherapy, or related fields.
• Previous experience in working with an NGO and providing Drama therapy sessions
• Ability to facilitate support group sessions.
• Active listener with good interpersonal skills and ability to question, reflect and challenge attitudes and beliefs.
• Able to empathize and build a supportive relationship with beneficiaries.
• Must be in control of their feelings, thoughts, and emotions whilst working with the beneficiaries.
• Oriented and able to meet strict timelines for outputs.
