Amel Association International (Amel) is a Lebanese and non-sectarian NGO created in 1979. Amel works through 32 centers, 6 mobile medical units, 2 mobile education units and 1 protection unit, and for 43 years has supported the poorest regions of Lebanon, from Beirut and its South Suburbs to Mount Lebanon, Bekaa and South Lebanon. Amel offers accessible services for all in the following fields: food security, health, education, protection, child protection, gender-based violence, livelihood, promotion and protection of human rights, rural development.
Job Purpose
Under Amel’s crisis response program and in coordination with the education program team, the Education Specialist will be responsible for the provision of technical support and guidance on Non-Formal Education (NFE) programmes curricula, teachers training and professional development as well as contributing to the overall development on the Education Program.
The Education specialist will work in close collaboration with other Education program’s team, including the Education coordinator and several projects’ coordinators, M&Es and field coordinators.
The Education Specialist will be based in Beirut with regular field visits to the projects’ sites. The working schedule will be defined with the Education Coordinator, with an average of 32 hours per week, 4 days a week.
Main Responsibilities
Responsibility #1: Design the Strategic Action Plan (SAP)
1.a) The Education Specialist will remain constantly updated with the Education Sectors’ updates, including the informations related to Formal and Non-Formal Education. He/She will also be updated with the multiple projects’ activities implemented by Amel Association International through the participation of coordination meetings;
1.b) The Education Specialist will identify the needs and gaps in terms of creation/revision of curricula, educators’ capacity building & assessment tools and suggest relevant actions to respond to the needs while conducting field visits and class observations;
1.c) The Education Specialist will collaborate with the Education Coordinator and other relevant staff members of the Education Program to prioritize actions to be formalized in the Strategic Action Plan (SAP).
Responsibility #2: Support the development of curricula
2.a) The Education Specialist will be responsible of creating and/or editing curricula to ensure that the content used within the Education Program by the educators match with the children’s needs with innovative and up-to-date educational approaches;
2.b) The Education Specialist will ensure that the curricula and other education materials match with the national and international norms and standards, particularly with MEHE’s guidelines and the RACE plans;
2.c) The Education Specialist will provide his/her technical support in assessing the relevance of pre-existing curricula and suggest improvements if needed.
Responsibility #3 Build educators’ capacities
3.a) Based on internal team’s capacities and lessons learned, the Education Specialist will encourage experience sharing among team members, ensuring that individual skills and relevant knowledge serve the teams as a whole;
3.b) The Education Specialist will conduct training workshops to strengthen the educators’ professional development. The trainings will be designed in a collaborative manner with the Education Programs’ teams at the management and the field level;
3.c) The Education Specialist will transfer key skills and advise on teaching methods / delivery of curricula with the provision of mentoring/coaching activities.
Responsibility #4 Improve Assessment tools and Procedures
4.a) The Education Specialist will design assessment tools to evaluate the children’s academic improvements in accordance with projects’ indicators;
4.b) The Education Specialist will assist in the creation of needs and formative assessments and monitor their implementation to better inform the support provided by the educators ;
4.c) The Education Specialist will inform the procedures to be used in the monitoring and evaluation frameworks of the Education Program in close coordination with coordinators and M&Es;
Responsibility #5 Coordinate and share expertise
5.a) The Education Specialist will attend Amel’s coordination meetings and will collaborate closely with the Education programs’ teams (meetings, coordination tools, etc.);
5.b) The Education Specialist will represent Amel Association International in relevant coordination meetings with external stakeholders when technical expertise is required;
5.c) The Education will contribute in sharing curricula and other materials produced by Amel to external stakeholders when necessary.

• A minimum of 2-3 years working experience in Non-Formal Education organizations
• Strong knowledge on the Lebanese Education system and the Non-Formal Education regulations
• Good knowledge of core principles of Children Rights, Do No Harm, as well as Education in Emergencies minimum standards
• Previous experience in designing education curricula and building educators’ capacities
• Strong communication skills and ability to work in collaboration with multiple stakeholders and staff members
• Sharing of key humanitarian values with cross-cultural sensitivity
