Focal Point - EDUC Program

Background:

In response to the education crisis in Lebanon, compounded by the challenges in South Lebanon, Amel LHF has initiated a funded project. Drawing upon over 40 years of experience in Lebanon, Amel aims to address the urgent educational and child protection needs in the region. The primary goal of the project is to ensure access to quality learning opportunities and promote the well-being of out-of-school children and their caregivers affected by the crises in Lebanon. This is to be achieved through the provision of basic literacy numeracy, youth literacy numeracy, and activities geared towards mitigating child protection risks.

Task #1: Internal coordination

• Participate in weekly team meetings;
• Liaise with Amel on different programs in the assigned location;
• Monitor contextual updates and engage in relevant coordination/information-sharing meetings as required to inform Amel’s Education Programs’ strategy;
• Share constantly the updates related to the project’s implementation with the Education Officer daily;
• Participate in other required internal meetings.
Task #2: Collaboration, Networking
• The focal points are in charge of outreach, and liaison with teachers and other members of the education and child protection teams. The focal points report to the
social worker.
• Develop and maintain positive relations with the communities and other local actors;
• Involve and inform communities and community leaders about the activities;
• Coordinate with relevant partners in the assigned locations.
Task #3: Projects Implementation
• Under the supervision of the Education and CP Field Coordinator, the Focal Point will be implementing the project’s activities in line with the relevant outputs and outcomes inside camp; outside the center;
• Coordinate Closely among and between the different project’s teams working in the same area to identify common challenges, gaps, and needs and report them to the education officer;
• Assist in planning, organizing and documenting the delivery of goods and services to the beneficiaries;
• Conduct outreach work and collect information for the identification of beneficiaries (parents’ committees, children’s committees, etc.);
• Provide awareness sessions to the communities on education-related topics and assist the social worker on the provision of other awareness sessions;
• Identify the communities’ needs and the children’s needs to be referred to the social worker;
• Advise communities and caregivers on existing education activities and other social services (info session, guidance, etc.);
• Assist in conducting and preparing mapping of relevant services being provided, to be shared with the education officer;
• Ensure beneficiaries’ attendance to the different project’s activities with constant follow-up (phone calls, home visits, key informal interviews, etc.);
• Report to the education officer the work performance of teachers and drivers;
• Collect the children’s attendance on a daily basis to be reported to the education officer;
• Organize the occasional activities in collaboration with the Education and CP Field Coordinator and other team members as per the project’s workplan;
• Conduct need assessments for the parents/caregivers to identify the need;
• Monitor transportation for children to/from center coordinating closely with the bus drivers;

• Collect from the teachers the lessons’ plans and provide guidance if needed.
Task #4 Quality standards
• Monitor and follow-up on the quality of services provided with class observation and ensure consistency in the teachers’ lessons plan with the project’s methodologies;
• Support in creating a safe classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the physical, social, and emotional development of children inside the
schools;
• Ensure adherence to Amel policies and donor requirements;
• Ensure a strict adherence to the principles of Child Protection at all times, including respect for confidentiality and a child-centered approach, acts in the best interests of the child;
• Ensure that all activities abide by humanitarian principles and sector principles and standards.
Task #5: Monitoring & Evaluation / Reporting
• Enter and update on a monthly basis data related to beneficiaries and activities in the education database/outreach sheet;
• Prepare quantitative reports upon request;
• Prepare and fill all documents related to activities (Work plans, Reports, data collection …) ;
• Ensure that the M&E plan (indicators, timeline, etc.) is being well implemented;
• Share relevant suggestions to improve M&E methodologies throughout the project duration.

The Focal Point may support additional tasks and carry other responsibilities that are not mentioned above, depending on the needs of the education program.


Requiements, Qualifications and Skills:
• At least two years experience in education, preferably in an NGO environment or educational setting
• Bachelor’s degree in education, development or another social science
• An understanding of formal and non-formal education
• Understanding of government institutions, particularly the public school
• A demonstrated understanding of national development issues in particular in relation to children
• Strength in interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
• Fluency in written and spoken Arabic and English
• Strong documentation, research and report-writing skill
• Knowledge and experience in child protection issues • Experience in community sensitization/ mobilization
• Excellent computer skills.
