General practitioner (Physicians)-Douris

Amel Association International (Amel) is a Lebanese and non-sectarian NGO created in 1979. Amel works through 27 centers, 6 mobile medical units, 2 mobile education units, and 1 protection unit, and for more than 40 years has supported the poorest regions of Lebanon, from Beirut and its South Suburbs to Mount Lebanon, Bekaa and South Lebanon. Amel offers accessible services for all in the following fields: food security, health, education, protection, child protection, gender-based violence, livelihood, promotion and protection of human rights, and rural development.

Job Summary:

The Physician works under the supervision of the project coordinator, to ensure quality healthcare services. He/She is responsible for comprehensive medical intervention while preserving the dignity and respect of patients. He/She will provide a comprehensive primary healthcare package including medical consultations and medical care through visits to the patients. He/She coordinates directly with Amel's medical coordinator in Beirut headquarters regarding evidence-based clinical guidelines used in the management of disease encountered and reports any breach of protocol to the medical coordinator.

Main Responsibilities:

Working Hours, Schedule, and Conditions:

  • The physician will be working 2 days per week, from 8 am till 2 pm.
  • He/She is part of a multidisciplinary team, composed of a doctor, a nurse, a social worker, a midwife, and a driver. The position requires close coordination with the field coordinator, field officer and the head of the center.
  • The job responsibilities include working under the project's log frame to achieve targets set.
  • The physician is responsible for his transportation to and from work.
  • Abide by Amel's values, regulations, laws, and vision when working with hosting and refugee communities
  • Communicate with the community to ensure their knowledge of the project/ PHCC services.

 Tasks and Responsibilities:

Professional Performance and Safe Delivery of Patient Care:

  • Apply medical knowledge and skills to diagnosis and prevention. 
  • Carry out outpatient consultations, prescribing the necessary treatment, respecting Amel protocols.
  • Applying evidence-based medical practices and critical thinking throughout the care, for patients targeted in the project without discrimination.
  • Creating comprehensive care plans that are specific to each patient, and providing them with education and awareness.
  • Follow-up with patients after medical consultation, including tracking patient progress, addressing any issues or complications, and adjusting care plans as necessary.
  • Acknowledges patient’s rights on confidentiality issues, and maintains them at all times and report any breach.
  • Abide with infection control and safety standards, and report any case of suspected outbreak.
  • Raise awareness about preventive measures based on the patient’s age , family and medical history.

Putting the Medical Care into Action:

  • Assess people’s health, and environment
  • Assess people’s sense of orientation, concentration, and need for education
  • Identify all patients requiring emergency care, stabilize the condition, and refer them according to protocols.
  • Point out signs of abuse, and any other medical or mental problems and weaknesses.
  • Plan the care according to people's physical and medical health needs
  • Implement the care plan and evaluate it accordingly
  • Prescribe appropriate medications as per guidelines, ensuring patients understand instructions for dose and correct use.
  • Order diagnostic services available in the project (Lab and Imagery tests) or refer people to diagnostic services available in the PHCC.
  • Follow up and communicate results with the patients or caregivers.
  • Determine the supplies and materials needed for healthcare and inform the nurse to prepare the medications needed before visits.

Data Entry and Office Work

  • Keeping a record of all patients
  • Document all diagnostics planned and conducted on patients' medical records
  • The documentation should be clear and legible without abbreviation.
  • Record all the medical orders with date, time, signature, and stamp.

 Educational Degree and Details

  • Specialist in General Medicine and family Medicine.
  • At least one year of post-qualification work experience in a relevant field.
  • Experience in public or community health.
