The Mental Health nurse is part of the mental health team and works closely with the mental health case worker, psychiatrist and psychotherapist. She supports the team with mental health screening, assessment, medication administration and follow up.
Main Responsibilities
- Conduct mental health screening
- Collaborate with the mental health team on the development and implementation of beneficiaries’ care plan(schedule appointments, renewal of prescriptions etc...)
- Administer medications, including psychotropics, to beneficiaries
- Follow-up with the Psychiatrist in the case of adverse effects of psychotropic medications
- Ensure that all measures related to psychotropic medications are handled properly (availability of medication needed, dispensing, and reporting)
- Identify and report on gaps related to the management of psychotropic medications
- Provide beneficiaries and their families with information and education on their mental health illness and recovery plan
- Make appropriate referrals to medical/mental health services when needed
- Intervene and de-escalate mental health emergencies and suicide crise
- Support the PHC with data entry
