RS teacher(s) - Arabic & English & Math - Beirut Shelters

Primary Purpose:

The retention teacher is responsible for providing academic support and guidance to children who are at risk of dropping out of school and for delivering literacy and numeracy sessions through remedial and reinforcement education, improving children’s academic performance in a supportive and active learning environment.

Task #1: Providing high-quality education for children and youth

  • Ensures that all children and youth have grasped the learning acquirements from the respective curriculum;
  • Plans, prepares, and delivers comprehensive lesson plans and instructional materials to address different learning abilities;
  • Develops and prepares a variety of learning materials and resources (worksheets and activities);
  • Implements and adapts various teaching methods and differentiated instruction to meet children and youth’s learning abilities and interests (ex: active learning, learning by doing/playing, etc.);
  • Increases children’s autonomy in completing their homework/tasks and ensures they have grasped the lessons’ objectives from school;
  • Participates actively in the development and creation of remedial/education materials by providing feedback, participating in focus group discussions, or any other request by the Learning Development Coordinator (LDC);
  • Performs all tasks assigned within the scope of his/her job.

Task #2: Protection:

- Ensures the implementation of Amel’s Code of Conduct, Child protection policy, PSEAH standards and Safeguarding policies and procedures;

- Establishes classroom rules and procedures to maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment;

- Adopts positive discipline practices ensuring that children feel comfortable, safe, and respected;

- Oversees children and youth during recess and activities;

- Supports the social worker/psychologist in engaging the community members in the children’s learning (communication skills);

- Supports the organization of any specific activities to respond to urgent needs;

Task #3: Monitoring & evaluation

- Designs relevant tools to assess the children progress (Diagnostics tests, pre/post-tests, formative assessment, etc.);

-  Conducts pre-and post-assessments to evaluate the children academic process and adapt the adopted teaching strategies;

- Reports the children results to the field officer on time.

- Monitors the attendance of the children daily.

Task #4: Coordination:

- Coordinates daily with the project’s team members to adopt the collective response to the children needs (coherent response with animator, social worker, psychologist, etc.);

- Attends and takes part in staff meetings;

- Ensures smooth referrals with the social worker/psychologist;

Task #5: Professional Development:

- Participates in internal and external professional development activities (20 training hours).

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in any relevant subject from an accredited university
  • Teaching diploma is a plus
  • 3-4 years of teaching experience, preferably within an NGO setting
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Languages: Proficiency in English and Arabic.

Working Hours: 3 days a week, 3 hours a day

Monthly incentive: 360$ per month/ hourly based
