Social Worker- Tripoli

Amel Association International (Amel) is a Lebanese and non-sectarian NGO created in 1979. Amel works through 30 centres, 6 mobile medical units, 2 mobile education units and 1 mobile protection unit, and for more than 40 years has supported the poorest regions of Lebanon, from Beirut and its South Suburbs to Mount Lebanon, Beqaa and South Lebanon. Amel offers accessible services for all in the following fields: food security, health, education, protection, child protection, gender-based violence, livelihood, promotion and protection of human rights and rural development.

Job Summary:

The Social worker works under the supervision of the Field officer, to ensure comprehensive healthcare services. He/She is responsible for comprehensive medical intervention while preserving the dignity and respect of patients. He/She supports families and individuals with specific needs to cope with challenges they are facing in their lives and improve their psychological and social status. The social health worker prepares plans, implements, and finally evaluates special programs aiming at achieving comprehensive, continuous social development and well-being. 

Main Responsibilities:

  • Working Hours, Schedule, and Conditions:
  • The social worker will be working 6 days per week, from 8 am till 2 pm from Monday to Friday and on Saturday from 8 till 12 am
  • He/She is part of a multidisciplinary team, composed of a doctor, a nurse, a social worker, a midwife, and a driver. The position requires close coordination with the field officer and the head of the center.
  • The job responsibilities include working under the project's log frame to achieve targets set 
  • The social worker is responsible for his transportation to and from work
  • Abide by Amel's values, regulations, laws, and vision when working with hosting and refugee communities
  • Communicate with the community to ensure their knowledge of the project/ PHCC services.

Field Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Offer socio-medical advice and guidance to the patients and their families.
  • Establish a good communication network with the different actors in the area of intervention to facilitate the implementation of community engagement activities and increase the acceptance of the project.
  • Identify persons with specific needs, and provide them with social counseling or refer them to relevant services.
  • Coordinate with the Satellite Unit team and the PHC center to suggest topics to be raised under the health education and promotion component of the project.
  • Establish a feedback and complaints mechanism for the beneficiaries in coordination with the Monitoring and Evaluation Department.
  • Support in the development of health education material when needed.
  • Deliver awareness sessions
  • Work in close coordination with the field coordinator to ensure timely implementation of activities planned for the project
  • Conduct focus group discussions or satisfaction surveys when needed
  • Ensure safe referral of cases in need of specific services (both medical and non-medical), follow up on the referrals, and report on them
  • Map the available services in areas of intervention (health, education, livelihoods, etc.), and update the service mapping periodically
  • Carry out social, psychological, and health care assessment needs in alignment with the medical and social strategies
  • Prepare the weekly and monthly session planning and share it with the field coordinator.
  • Report any protection situation to the field coordinator.
  • Make sure to send proof of the awareness session to the project or field coordinators
  • Ensure donor’s and AMEL visibility in every visit and every session.
