Project Background

This project aims to provide an integrated multisectoral humanitarian response to conflict-affected and displaced populations in Beirut and Mount Lebanon, South Lebanon, and Bekaa, ensuring access to essential health, protection, and education services through community-based and mobile modalities.

Within the education component, the project seeks to enhance access to safe, inclusive, and quality learning opportunities for vulnerable children affected by conflict and displacement in Saida. Education interventions will include center-based educational support activities, as well as Education in Emergencies (EiE) interventions implemented in shelters and displacement settings. The project will also integrate psychosocial support and inclusive approaches to ensure that children with learning difficulties and disabilities can fully participate in educational activities, while contributing to their learning continuity, wellbeing, and resilience.

Primary Purpose:

The Special educator will support the integration of inclusive and child-centered educational approaches within project activities.  S/he will help identify and assess children with additional learning needs, guide educators on appropriate classroom adaptations, and support the development of strategies that enhance participation, retention, and learning outcomes for all children.

Responsibility #1: Program implementation and support:

  • Support the implementation of inclusive and child-centered educational activities in….
  • Conduct classroom observations to monitor learners’ participation, learning behaviors, and potential barriers to learning.
  • Identify and support children experiencing learning difficulties, developmental delays, behavioral challenges, disabilities, or other barriers to learning and participation in education.
  • Carry out non-clinical assessments to better understand learners’ needs and support requirements.
  • Develop and implement individualized support strategies and contribute to the preparation and follow-up of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) based on learners identified needs.
  • Support educators in adapting learning activities, teaching methods, and educational materials to accommodate diverse learning needs and abilities.
  • Support educators in applying inclusive teaching practices, classroom management techniques, and child-centered approaches.
  • Provide direct individual and small-group educational support sessions for children requiring additional assistance.
  • Promote safe, accessible, supportive, and non-discriminatory learning environments for all children.
  • Contribute to the identification of learners who may require specialized services and support referrals when needed.
  • Coordinate closely with educators, the Inclusion Officer, project staff to ensure appropriate support for learners.

Responsibility #2: Monitoring & evaluation

  • Use project monitoring tools to collect data related to inclusion and learning support activities.
  • Maintain accurate records related to assessments, support plans, referrals, and learners’ progress.
  • Provide regular updates and reports to the Inclusion Officer and/or Project/Field Coordinator on inclusion-related activities and challenges.
  • Contribute to project reporting, case documentation, and success stories related to inclusive education interventions.
  • Ensure confidentiality, safeguarding, and child protection principles are respected in all activities and documentation.

Responsibility #3: Professional Development:

  • Participates in internal and external professional development activities (20 training hours yearly).

The Special Educator may be required to support additional tasks and carry other responsibilities not mentioned above, depending on the evolving needs of the project.

Qualifications, Skills and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or any related field.
  • 2-3 years of professional experience in special education or inclusive education.
  • Experience in humanitarian, non-formal education, or community-based settings is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of inclusive education principles, child protection, and psychosocial support approaches.
  • Experience working with vulnerable and displaced populations in Lebanon is an asset.
  • Strong training, facilitation, and coordination skills.
  • Proficiency in Arabic and English.
