Under the supervision of the Program Manager, the Educational Program Officer will work closely with the Program Assistant and English teachers to ensure AMIDEAST’s successful implementation of the Access program, which is currently serving almost 1,200 scholarship recipients in 58 towns throughout all regions of Lebanon. Access is a US Department of State program which provides two-year microscholarships to learn English and participate in cultural activities for underprivileged youth. This is an independent consultant position.
Administrative responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
assisting with the development of project proposal; updating annual schedule and plan; and monitoring progress to ensure all deliverables are met in a timely manner;
participating in screening, interviewing, and orienting teachers to the program; and monitoring teaching schedules and number of teaching hours to ensure all classes are on track;
reviewing and editing databases, evaluations, and other program documents to ensure accuracy and completeness, including teachers’ schedules, students’ grade sheets and the class enrollment list; and
identifying, organizing, and attending extra-curricular activities and events for the students; coordinating with teachers, vendors, and all related stakeholders to ensure smooth implementation of Access events.
Education-related responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
providing guidance to teachers on classroom management and grading; initiating and implementing teacher training; and visiting the classes to provide educational consulting for the teachers and to conduct classroom evaluation, teaching evaluation, and student evaluations;
monitoring the implementation of prepared curriculum for all English levels and specialized American cultural awareness modules including course syllabi, course schedules, and teaching guidelines; and
tabulating grade sheets; monitoring student attendance, grades, and progress on a monthly basis; following up with students who want to drop out of the program and resolving conflicts; and providing data on student progress for the quarterly reports.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in English Language or English Literature; Master’s degree preferred
4-6 years experience in an administrative or coordination role in education
Experience supervising teachers
Experience in teaching English at secondary school level preferable
Demonstrated skills and experience in project management
Demonstrated skills and experience planning and organizing logistics for events and workshops
Excellent organizational, interpersonal, time management and communication skills
High attention to detail
Ability to multitask
Excellent computer skills including MS Office; high proficiency in Excel is required
Fluency in English and Arabic
Willingness to travel extensively to class sites all over Lebanon
Lebanese citizenship
Availability to start work immediately or within 2-4 weeks
