TITLE Arabic Volunteer Translator
PROGRAMME Language Resource Centre, Campaigns & Communications Directorate
VOLUNTEER PURPOSE To contribute and assist the in-house translation team in maintaining and optimizing the Arabic Translation Unit's terminology database with training from the relevant teams.

TASK LIST
Contribute to the maintenance and updating of the Arabic terminology database through:
Using Amnesty International’s outputs in English and Arabic to identify the equivalents for terminology and words used;
Carrying out documentary and linguistic research and identifying relevant background material and appropriate terminology to feed the terminology database, following the guidelines of colleagues in the Arabic Translation Unit;
Researching legal, technical and scientific phraseology to find the correct translation;
Provide support with other minor administrative tasks when advised.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Essential Skills & Experience
Native Arabic speaker and excellent knowledge in English required
Demonstrable computer literacy skills and fluency with Office software and Internet communication tools.
Academic background in languages and/or translation
Knowledge of Computer Aided Translation and Terminology tools
Accuracy and attention to detail
Willingness to undertake administrative tasks
Good inter-personal and communication skills
Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
Ability to establish and maintain effective and constructive working relationships with people of different national and/or cultural backgrounds.
Desirable Skills
Interest in Amnesty International’s work
Experience with and/or interest in web platforms
Good understanding of the political, cultural and security situation of the Middle East and North Africa
