The Educational Field Officer assumes a role dealing with a variety of groups and individuals in the school setting and in the community. S/he supports school teachers, teacher assistants, vendors, coordinates resources, collects data and reports from different source point and acts as their point of communication. He/she enables the implementation of the project and exert efforts outreaching all concerned beneficiaries and ensuring a safe and enabling learning environments, engage parents and improve teachers’ performance and students' performance.
The Education Field Officer also provides job-embedded and ongoing support leading to professional development for teachers, teachers’ assistants, and acts as a mentor who provides guidance for teachers to improve their content knowledge and instructional strategies and build their capacity to meet the learning needs of all students. The EFO ensures that the teaching staff acquires the understanding and skills to improve instructional practices at the classroom level and student achievement.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Uphold the integrity and the values of Ana Aqra Association through words and actions; and foster the development of diverse concepts and new ideas.
- Implement the work plan and follow-up on the specified indicators closely with the line manager
- Participate in all required professional development/training in order to acquire the knowledge, skills, and instructional strategies necessary to effectively impact the instructional practices of the teachers and teacher assistants that are coached and update their knowledge about current pedagogies relevant to the role. Facilitate and communicate with teachers and school administrators the procedures of the program components to provide an enabled teaching environment that hosts a community of learners.
- Identify barriers and weaknesses by collecting and analyzing teacher and student data organizing and implementing problem-solving actions with teachers
- Facilitate the development of high quality of teaching by working with teachers and teacher assistants (in teams or individually) to improve their knowledge and skills, training, in-class, observing and modeling of instructional strategies, mentoring teachers/teacher assistants while assessing student work, developing lesson plans with teachers based on assessment, and recording data on CRM timely and supporting data analysis.
- Ensure instructional effectiveness and student progress using, assessment and evaluation tools and by observing, documenting and submitting reports.
- Build and maintain confidential and respective relationships with teachers, students and other staff members, ensuring conversations and interactions remain confidential, so that a high level of trust is created and maintained, sharing information and reports only with staff members; specifically, program manager, coordinators and trainers.
- Giving constructive and objective feedback to ensure professional development.
- Documenting all visits in writing to be submitted regularly to the Program Manager or coordinator.
- Request needed materials and resources according to the needs and to the planned activities.
- Issue purchase requests for the services offered.
- Collect data from teachers and school administrators and other non-teaching staff and reinforce the use of all evaluation tools.
- Facilitate the parents’ meetings and encourage parents’ participation.
- Document the parents meeting and collect respective data if FGD is conducted.
- Mediate and resolve arising conflicts according to project, Ana Aqra Association and beneficiaries’ well-being.
- Contain challenges and manage problems.
- Compile and write needed reports.
- Involve teachers and other staff in their own school experience by instilling a sense of belonging and school pride.
- Explore with teachers and other staff factors contributing to success or failure of the program and of students.
- Collect data using objective evaluation tools related to the project and shared by the program manager
- Enter data and report all evaluations and students' performance on the respective data system.
- Discuss time management and program-requirements to ensure success.
- Orient parents to school requirements, procedures and regulations for improving student performance and thus students' retention.
- Reinforce the importance of the parents’ role in the schooling process of their children and school expectations of students on an academic level.
- Interact with parents and other community members in order to involve them in school and develop a sense of belonging.
- Assist project coordinator in communicating with teachers and monitors on issues of professional development.
- Assist teachers and other teaching and office staff in carrying out job functions when necessary (examples: help in assessing students, plan activities, ensure resources are available in the classrooms...).
- Consult with project coordinator regarding stressing issues and their impact on teachers and students’ behavior and performance.
Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills
- Bachelor degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies preferable in Education or relevant degree
- Min 2-4 years of experience in Field Work with focus in education
- Fluency in spoken and written Arabic and very good command of English
- Excellent computer skills, Excel in particular
- Knowledgeable of the community they live in and its geography
- Good problem-solving skills
- Understanding of log frame and implementing work plans
- Ability to prioritize and work with groups and variety of people
- Knowledge of the current education challenges
