Education Specialist - Qitabi II

USAID’s “Quality Instruction towards Access and Basic Education Improvement” (QITABI II) is a five-year program seeking to improve learning outcomes for all students in public primary schools in Lebanon.

Its activity targets an estimated 200,000 girls and boys, including those who are registered in second shifts of public schools.

Scope and Responsibilities

The position holder is knowledgeable in theories of education and principles of learning including content development mainly Language Arts and Literacy in accordance with the Lebanese Elementary Public Schools System. 
An education specialist focuses on developing, coordinating and improving education programs, policies and standards, and/ or solving education problems.

Duties

5. Supports on content deelopment mainly Language Arts and Literacy programs for Grades K- 8 aligned to the Lebanese public schools’ context and curriculum as well as developing supporting educational materials including, assessments, lesson plans, and training of trainers’ guide & teachers’ manuals as needed on the adapted approaches in the Lebanese primary public system.
6. Works closely with CERD national trainers and curriculum developers and will be responsible to transfer the know-how of the Balanced Literacy Approach and other approaches while scaling up into all schools and including grades 5 and 6.
7. Develops tools to measure the effectiveness of the curriculum.
8. Supports schools and teachers in continuing professional development and school-based teacher development programs, and advises on developing and implementing comprehensive, professional development plans that are aligned with teachers’ competencies, applying a clear model of support, strategies and appropriate models of technical support and research-based practices;
9. Assists and advises the school principals in setting, implementing and evaluating their school development plan, and coordinates continuing professional development needs for all schools, he/she supports to enhance school philosophy and ensures that the needs of the schools are met;
10. Works as a team member and assists on quality assurance implementation to enhance inclusive educational services against set standards and performance indicators for improving quality of schools;
11. Provides support in curriculum analysis and enrichment to meet the new curricular challenges and innovations and the different aspects of inclusive education and advises on identifying appropriate teaching and learning tools, materials and resources to ensure that the needs of all students, teachers and schools are met;
12. Evaluates data obtained from study and prepares narrative and statistical reports.
13. Formulates recommendations and procedures for current and proposed units of instruction.
14. Compiles and finalizes weekly /monthly reports.
15. Maintains records and prepares status reports for the work done.
16. Performs such other duties as may be assigned.

18. Academic and Professional

19. Minimum of , Master’s degree in Education or a Phd candidate is preferred.

20. Experience

21. At least eight years’ experience in teaching, curriculum and instruction.

22. Language Excellent command of spoken and written Arabic;

23. Good command of spoken and written English and French.
