Job purpose
The Monitor serves as part of the organization’s leadership team, providing job-imbedded and ongoing support leading to professional development for teachers, teachers’ assistants and field officers. He/she acts as mentors who provide guidance for teachers to improve their content knowledge and instructional strategies. Overall, the job of the monitor is to build the capacity of teachers to meet the learning needs of all students. The monitor’s goal is to ensure that the teaching staff acquires the understanding and skills to:
Improve instructional practices at the classroom level.
Improve student achievement.
Duties and responsibilities
The duties and responsibilities of the monitor include:
Participate in all required monitor professional development/training:
The monitor is in charge of acquiring the knowledge, skills, and instructional strategies necessary to effectively impact the instructional practices of the teachers that are coached.
He/she must update their knowledge about current and past research in education and other pedagogies relevant to the monitoring role.
2.Identify barriers and weaknesses by:
Collecting and analyzing teacher and student data.
Organizing and implementing problem-solving actions with teachers
3. Facilitate the development of high quality of teaching by:
Working with teachers (in teams or individually) to improve their knowledge and skills.
Training, in-class monitoring, observing and modeling of instructional strategies.
Mentoring teachers while assessing student work.
Developing lesson plans with teachers based on assessment.
Supporting data analysis.
4. Monitoring instructional effectiveness and student progress through:
Using monitoring, assessment and evaluation tools.
Observing, documenting and submitting reports.
5. Building and maintaining confidential and respective relationships with teachers, students and other staff members:
Keeping the conversations and interactions that the monitor has with teachers, teachers’ assistant and field officers confidential so that a high level of trust is created and maintained.
Sharing information and reports only with staff members; specifically project director, coordinators and trainers.
Giving constructive and objective feedback to ensure professional development.
Documenting all visits in writing to be submitted regularly to the project coordinator.
Qualifications
The effectiveness of any monitoring initiative hinges on the selection of a candidate that is highly qualified preferably as a teacher, knowledgeable in content, and skilled in the sophisticated practices of monitoring.
Track record or evidence of improving student literacy and reading level and teachers’ achievement in their classroom.
Demonstrated deep knowledge of the relevant content balanced literacy.
Demonstrated knowledge and use of a rich array of instructional approaches, resources, and technologies.
Demonstrated skills in analyzing and using data for instructional decision-making.
Interpersonal, problem solving, and organizational skills required to effectively facilitate monitoring/coaching and staff development.
Ability to prepare and conduct needed quality training for teachers/school staff.
Knowledge of equity issues in current education reform.
Working conditions
A Monitoring job requires the candidate to be:
Present in the field most of the time with in school/learning settings.
Working during week days with the flexibility of working during weekends.
Working in multi-cultural settings, with in school and out of school children.
Interacting with novice and experienced teachers, teachers’ assistants and field officers.
Responsibilities within the Internal Control System
Ana Aqra Association's Internal Control Systems (ICS) encompass a set of rules, policies, and procedures that the organization implements to provide reasonable assurance that:
Its financial reports are reliable,
Its operations are effective and efficient.
Its activities comply with applicable laws and regulations.
The organization's board of directors, management, and other personnel are responsible for the internal control system. Thus, a monitor is responsible for the ICS and non-compliance will result in direct dismissal.
Confidentiality
All documents are confidential and should not be shared with any person without the consent of the Project Coordinator. Information requests from outsiders are forwarded to the Project Coordinator. The Monitor shall assist grantors' visitation when they are visiting the schools. At that time, the Monitor/coach shall answer questions, share information, show documents etc. to facilitate the visit.
Further Conditions
The monitor is not allowed to work for another institutions, NGOs or any other agency while hired by Ana Aqra Association. A one month notice of leave or termination of his/her job should be granted, regardless who requesting discontinuation of the employment is.
