Consultant for Toolkit on gender-sensitive reporting

AFE is is seeking a consultant to develop an inclusive toolkit for journalists on gender-sensitive reporting based on AFE’s training module for gender-sensitive reporting. The toolkit will be a practical guide that aims at improving coverage of gender-related stories in the regional media in the MENA.

Specific objectives:

  • Design the toolkit based on AFE’s media department training module and based on recommendations of journalists and editors from previously organized meetings and roundtables.
  • The toolkit will include practical guidelines such as checklists, exercises, list of terminology, practical examples from the region and best practices of covering gender and sexuality topics.
  • Work closely with AFE’s media department to insure desired target is met.

Expertise:

  • At least 8 years of experience in the media industry as a journalist, editor or content producer, or with journalists as an instructor, trainer or media programs coordination.
  • A track record of writing media related reports and toolkits.
  • Experience in developing guidelines based on journalism’s code of ethics and international standards.
  • Experience with gender sensitive reporting and coverage of LGBTIQ+ issues.
  • Excellent English language skills. Fluency in Arabic is a must.
  • Ability to work in a timely manner.
  • A strong commitment to human rights values.
  • Experience in training and/or closely working on gender issues is a plus.  

Timespan and budget:

This assignment is expected to be carried out during the month of October for 30 days. Final report to be delivered end of October 2020.
