Center Coordinator

   About the Project  In collaboration with researchers from the RAND Corporation, a non-profit research institute in the U.S., and with funding from the U.S. National Institutes of Health, the Lebanese AIDS Society and Arab Foundation for Freedom and Equality (AFE) are conducting a research project to evaluate the effects of an HIV prevention and sexual health intervention called Mpowerment. The two year-long community-based, peer run prevention program is an innovative and evolving program that includes a combination of peer-led small group safer sex workshops and peer outreach. The essence of the program is community mobilization and empowerment and creating a process by which young men encourage each other to practice safer sex, if they wish to engage in sexual activity.  About the Job The Center Coordinator will coordinate the peer outreach component as well as the small groups component of an HIV prevention and community-building project for young men between the ages of 18 and 29. Selected applicants will receive an extensive training on the components of the project, sexual health, communication and community mobilizing, as well as ongoing supervision and mentorship support.  Requirements Must be between the ages of 18-29. Must have demonstrated leadership qualities and ability to work independently. Must be creative and energetic. Theatrical skills are helpful. Must be able to work collaboratively in a team setting. Must have excellent interpersonal communication skills. Must be knowledgeable about community HIV/AIDS prevention issues. Must be familiar with the local community of young men. Must be able to work effectively and sensitively with men of varying socio-cultural backgrounds. Must be able to work collaboratively in a team setting. Must be comfortable discussing sex with young men. Must be able to work evenings and weekends, as necessary. Must have a judgmental free attitude. Must be willing to challenge all sorts of hate speech, phobias and stereotypes.  Responsibilities  • participating in the design and preparation of outreach and small group activities;  • recruiting, training and supervising young gay and bisexual men to participate in peer outreach and small group activities;  • organizing and running weekly outreach and small group planning meetings;  • participating in the development of safer sex educational materials to be used in outreach and small group activities;  • developing and organizing materials/supplies to be used in groups;  • participating in outreach and small group activities;  • attending project staff meetings;  • participating in community advisory board meetings;  • keeping records of outreach and group activities;  • facilitating small group safer sex workshops for young men    Education and Experience Must have experience in paid/volunteer work on HIV/AIDS-related or community issues, or an equivalent combination of education and experience such as community mobilizing, organizing, and social work.  Contact Person  Elie Ballan, Project Director Interested applicants can send a copy of their CV along with a cover letter to: eballan@afemena.org  Kindly not that only short listed candidates will be contacted for the round of interviews
