Managing Editor

Overview of the journal: As of 2015, the Gender and Sexuality Resource Center (GSRC) is starting a biannual, multilingual, open access, and peer-reviewed academic journal on gender and sexuality in the Middle East and North Arica region. The journal will respond to the hegemony of knowledge production, and will ensure that the MENA region plays a central role in redefining its own intersections and challenges when it comes to gender and sexuality research. Such a journal will mainly target graduate-level young academics, fresh graduates, independent writers, activists, and researchers who are not affiliated with an academic institution.   Overview of the position: The Managing Editor is a part-time position and plays a key role in the editorial board of the journal. In addition to actively participating in the decision-making process, the Managing Editor is also responsible for handling the communications, ensuring the smooth running of the internal organization, and building and implementing strategies to promote the journal to the public. The Managing Editor reports to the Editor in Chief.   Key Responsibilities: Communications: Coordinates with the Communications Officer on all the communications related to the journal, including social media Implements an outreach strategy to promote the activities of the journal Ensures the timely relay of information to facilitate communication with the team Handles complaints and conflict resolution prior to and after publication Organizational coordination: Allocates the tasks of the various parties involved in the journal submission process Ensures all deadlines are met, including online publishing Coordinates and follows up with the web developer and the web designer Organizes the activities related to the journal in collaboration with the Communications Officer Partnerships and networking: Manages a database based on the submissions for future reference Builds a list of contacts for networking and outreach   Qualifications: Competencies and skills: Strong commitment to gender equality, sexual and bodily rights, and women’s rights Ability to evaluate research and recommend edits Strong written communication skills and editing skills Excellent organizational skills and ability to relay information accurately in a timely manner Good time management skills and attention to detail Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team Ability to work independently and under pressure Flexibility and adaptability to change Good knowledge of social media and other online platforms
