Displacement, Conflict, and Disaster Fellowship

About the Fellowship 

The Institute for Social Justice and Conflict Resolution (ISJCR) ) and the Institute for Migration Studies (IMS) invite scholars with experience working with qualitative and quantitative data collection methods in the social sciences to apply for the Displacement, Conflict, and Disaster Fellowship.

The fellowship aims to support scholars whose research focuses on the complex interplay between displacement, conflict, and natural or man-made disasters. Applicants should have a robust research background in areas such as:

  • Forced migration and refugee studies
  • Conflict resolution and peacebuilding
  • Disaster response and risk reduction
  • Human rights and international law
  • Environmental impacts on vulnerable populations
  • Socioeconomic impacts of displacement

Fellows will be welcomed into the Institute for Social Justice and Conflict Resolution community and invited to participate in weekly meetings aimed at encouraging collaboration.

Fellows are responsible for leading on data collection and collaborating on one journal article with the research team at the ISJCR over a period of 6 months. Fellows will also participate when possible in ISJCR events, conferences, and workshops.

In the spirit of maintaining the ISJCR’s commitment to bridging the worlds of academia and policy, fellows will participate in the ISJCR’s monthly blog posts, among other ISJCR-led activities.

Time Period

The fellowship is a six-month appointment starting in October 2024.

Eligibility

  • Awarded a PhD in political science, international affairs, or other social sciences.
  • Fellows can be based outside of Lebanon.

Benefits

Fellows will receive a stipend of $2000 monthly, shared office space at the Institute for Social Justice and Conflict Resolution, and access to the Lebanese American University’s libraries.
