ASSABIL, Friends of Public Libraries is a Lebanese NGO that has been working for the promotion and creation of public libraries in Lebanon since 1997. Today, ASSABIL directly manages 3 municipal public libraries of Beirut and a mobile library. It also supports a network of public libraries throughout Lebanon with book donations, training, activity programs and expertise. ASSABIL’s Resource and Training Center offers its collection of children’s books, resources for teachers and librarians, publications and exhibits for public libraries and schools free of charge.
As part of the ASSABIL team, the project coordinator supports these efforts in several ways: project concept development , project coordination and implementation, reporting, administrative tasks related to project management under the supervision of the executive coordinator and in coordination with the project management team.

Mission 1: Member of CCP
Together with EC, BLC and the AC, the PM is a permanent member of the Committee for Cultural Programming (CCP) which convenes in order to reflect, discuss and propose programs and activities that will be part of future project proposals.
The committee will also convene to evaluate accomplished activities and programs, and from there determine ‘lessons learnt’ for future actions and document ‘best practices’ and ‘things not to be repeated’ that can be integrated in the reflection on future projects.
Mission 2: Project Coordination
- Oversee and organise the implementation of projects in coordination with the Activity and library coordinators and the project management team (preparation of action plans and continuous updating thereof, foreseeing necessary modifications and related communication with funding agencies)
- Assure the timely and complete implementation of projects as per developed activity calendar (preparation and continuous updating of working calendars)
- Oversee the timely and accurate expenditures in line with the project budget (monitoring expenses, anticipating necessary budget modifications, related communication with funding agencies)
- All regular administrative tasks related to project management in coordination with the financial manager (preparation of contracts, quotations, data collection and documentation, etc.)
- Monitoring and evaluation of projects
Mission 3: Reporting
Timely production of interim and final narrative reports to funding agencies.
Coordinate the production of interim and final financial reports with the financial manager; if necessary, this also includes the timely organization of audit reports as required by funding agencies
Assistance and contribution to the writing of annual reports on activities of the association (Beirut Libraries, Resource Center, Mobile Libraries, General Annual Report)
Knowledge required
- At least 3 years documented experience in project management in an NGO, preferably with experience in dealing with international funding agencies.
- Experience in project related to human rights activities, peace building and conflict sensitivity, gender mainstreaming, public libraries and public spaces is a plus.
- Good organizational skills
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
- Languages: Fluent in spoken and written Arabic and English, French is a plus
- Competence in project proposal and report writing (samples should be provided)
