Training on Basic Financial Accounting & Bookkeeping for Small Business

Most micro and small-scale businesses will encounter obstacles related to funds. Whether it’s the lack of
funds for operation, missing funds, or confusion on the correct manner of investing additional funds in the
business. Bookkeeping and basic business accounting are crucial to guide the business owner and provide
insight on financial transactions happening on a daily basis. With the right tools and basic understanding of
bookkeeping, business owners will become aware of unnecessary costs, growth opportunities withing the
business, and more.


About the topic of the course:


Small business accounting requires accurate bookkeeping, which entails maintaining organized records of a
business's financial transactions, including sales, expenses, assets, and liabilities.
The consultant is required to cover the basic three types of accounting reports in their workshop:

  • Balance sheets
  • Income statements
  • Cash flow

Each report records different values and provides unique insight into a business's financial health.
The training topics are as follows but not limited to:

  • Lebanese regulations overview
  • Creating and processing invoice, receipt, quotations etc…
  • Taxation overview and knowledge
  • Tracking business revenues and expenses (matching principles)
  • Book keeping (records and archiving)
  • Cash flow statement
  • Cost principles

Course Objectives


Participants will be able to:

  • Understand the peaks and troughs of income and expenditure
  • Learn about the different types of cost
  • Evaluate the differences between traditional and innovative budget analysis
  • Understand the key financial indicators and how to monitor accordingly
  • Evaluate the connection between budget processes and business improvement

The specific tasks of the consultant are as follows:

  • Prepare and design training materials, tools, presentations, assignments, and activities, in communication and mutual understanding with the AFDC team using a highly interactive training methodology that demonstrates awareness of adult learning modes. Material must be prepared using templates provided by AFDC and must comply with AFDC branding and marking requirements.
  • Provide all the material needed for the training sessions, including for example PowerPoint slides, handouts, etc.
  • Deliver the full training in Arabic language including presentation (PowerPoint)
  • At the end of the training, the consultant will present a detailed report about the training, including description of content and approach and data on participants’ assessments of effectiveness of the training.
  • The trainer will work with AFDC project team in close cooperation with the selected businesses in order to ensure an adequate delivery of the training program.
