The American University of Beirut (AUB) - Nature Conservation Center (NCC) is seeking a full-time Social Science Research Associate for our Citizen Science for Improved Integrated Solid Waste Management program.
The program works to characterize, optimize, assess, and implement scalable solutions currently in Bar Elias, Kab Elias and Marj municipalities for developing an integrated Solid Waste Management plan (ISWM). The objective is to create economically sustainable ISWM models which provide jobs to the community, are adaptable, and can be scaled up. Ideally, the Research Associate would have strong experience working with communities in a project based atmosphere.
Qualifications:
Background
BS or MA/MS in economics or social science
5+ years of experience with a BS, 2+ years of experience with an MA/MS
Experience conducting research and working closely with communities, municipalities, and laypeople
Experience with microeconomics desirable
General Skills
Exceptional interpersonal communication
Strong report/academic writing skills
Designing/administering questionnaires/survey and experimental design
Project planning
Knowledge of ISWM preferred
Statistical analysis preferred
Experience preparing paperwork for the International Review Board (IRB) preferred
Team oriented
Ability to work independently and under pressure, while meeting deadlines, is a must
Pays strong attention to detail
Fluent in Arabic and English
Tasks:
Coordinate with local authorities and community members on a regular biases
Conduct social research
Conduct necessary field work in three towns in Beqaa
Interview and survey community members
Collect data as needed
Statistical analysis of results
Prepare reports
