Main tasks and responsibilities

The tasks and responsibilities of the CP Officer are as follows:
1. Regular Shelter Visits and Monitoring:
• Conduct regular visits to assigned shelters to monitor the safety, well-being, and protection needs of children and caregivers.
• Ensure that child safeguarding standards are being upheld and that protection concerns are identified and addressed promptly.
• Build strong relationships shelter staff to foster a safe and supportive environment.

2. Provision of Psychosocial First Aid (PFA):
• Provide immediate emotional and practical support through Psychological First Aid (PFA) for children and caregivers experiencing distress.
• Offer safe and confidential spaces for children and caregivers to express their emotions and concerns, while guiding them on coping mechanisms and available support services.

2. Provision of Psychosocial First Aid (PFA):
• Provide immediate emotional and practical support through Psychological First Aid (PFA) for children and caregivers experiencing distress.
• Offer safe and confidential spaces for children and caregivers to express their emotions and concerns, while guiding them on coping mechanisms and available support services.

3. Implementation of Child Protection Activities:
• Plan and implement structured recreational activities for children to promote psychosocial well-being, resilience, and a sense of normalcy.
• Organize community-based psychosocial support (CBPSS) sessions for children and caregivers, focusing on stress management, coping skills, and building emotional resilience.

4. Conducting Information and Awareness Sessions:
• Organize and lead information sessions with children and caregivers on key topics, such as safety and security, health and hygiene, and child rights.
• Facilitate awareness sessions on child protection risks, child safeguarding, and PSEA (Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse), tailored to the needs of both children and caregivers.

5. Parenting Support and Capacity Building:
• Deliver parenting sessions that focus on positive parenting practices, child development, and managing parenting challenges in emergency settings.
• Provide caregivers with tools and strategies to support their children’s emotional and psychological well-being, while promoting a protective and nurturing environment.

6. Collaboration and Coordination:
• Coordinate with other CP team members, shelter staff, and local stakeholders to ensure a comprehensive and integrated approach to child protection and caregiver support.
• Participate in regular case discussions and coordination meetings to share insights and improve the quality of services provided.
• Work closely with all partners and actors to ensure proper referral pathways in the area of intervention and build a network with all actors working around implementation gateways.
• Collaborate closely with partners and relevant stakeholders to establish and maintain effective referral pathways within the area of intervention, while building a strong network with all actors involved in implementing related services and support.

7. Documentation and Reporting:
• Maintain detailed records of all activities, ensuring that data is collected in a safe, confidential, and accurate manner.
• Prepare and submit regular reports on child protection activities, PFA interventions, and observed trends, while identifying gaps and recommending solutions.

8. Other Responsibilities:
• Participate actively in all mandatory trainings provided by AVSI and or the sector.
• Participate in the development of technical documents, presentations, and reports and documenting achievements and lessons learned.
• Perform other duties within areas of responsibility as requested by the supervisor.
