Child Protection Officer- PSA & Staff Wellbeing Capacity Building

The role ensures adherence to child safeguarding principles and fosters a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all participants. Activities are planned to be conducted in person, with the flexibility to shift to remote or blended modalities if circumstances require, ensuring continued support and engagement.

Main tasks and responsibilities:

The tasks and responsibilities of the CP Officer and Deputy PSEAH focal point are as follows:

  1. Child Protection Programming and implementation
  • Conduct regular visits to assigned centers/SDCs to monitor child safeguarding standards and identify protection risks.
  • Provide Psychological First Aid (PFA) and maintain confidential, child-friendly spaces for children and caregivers.
  • Implement blended CBPSS and FPSS activities, caregiver sessions, and structured interventions, including art-based intervention when required.
  • Identify vulnerable cases and coordinate referrals and collaborate with service providers to ensure timely and appropriate support.

Capacity Strengthening of SDC Staff

  • Strengthen the capacity of SDC staff through structured training, mentoring, and on-the-job coaching in child protection and community-based psychosocial support.
  • Support SDC teams in planning and facilitating safe, inclusive, and child-centered sessions, while monitoring the quality of implementation and ensuring alignment with safeguarding standards and approved methodologies.
  • Assess learning needs, provide technical feedback, and promote progressive ownership of psychosocial activities to support sustainable service delivery.

 

  1. Psychosocial approach Technical Support Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the Psychosocial Approach Advisor (PSA) to support the planning and delivery of trainings and capacity-building sessions on psychosocial approach and wellbeing/staff care for staff and contractors.
  • Learn and apply psychosocial support tools and approaches under the guidance of the PSA, gradually taking on more responsibility in facilitation.
  • Assist in adapting training materials, tools, and methodologies to suit the local context and field realities.
  • Document lessons learned and provide feedback to improve training approaches and support systems.

 

  1. Collaboration and Coordination:
  • Coordinate with other project members, center/SDC staff, and local stakeholders to ensure a comprehensive and integrated approach to child protection and caregiver support.
  • Participate in regular case discussions and coordination meetings to share insights and improve the quality of services provided.
  • Collaborate with partners and relevant stakeholders to establish and maintain effective referral pathways within the area of intervention, while building a strong network with all actors involved in implementing related services and support.
  • Coordinate closely with the MEAL department to ensure that child protection activities are effectively monitored, evaluated, and aligned with program goals. This includes sharing relevant data, providing updates on program progress, and collaborating on the development of tools for tracking the impact of child protection interventions. Additionally, support the MEAL team in gathering feedback from beneficiaries, ensuring accountability to children and caregivers, and contributing to the continuous learning process to improve program outcomes.

 

  1.  Documentation and Reporting:
  • Maintain detailed records of all activities, ensuring that data is collected in a safe, confidential, and accurate manner.
  • Prepare and submit regular reports on child protection activities, and observed trends, while identifying gaps and recommending solutions.

 

  1. Other Responsibilities:
    • Participate actively in all mandatory trainings provided by AVSI and or the sector.
    • Participate in the development of technical documents, presentations, and reports and documenting achievements and lessons learned.
    • Perform other duties within areas of responsibility as requested by the supervisor.
