Under the direct supervision of the General Manager of the Barbara Nassar Cancer Center, the Pharmacist & Patients’ Advocate ensures the efficient management of the pharmacy in compliance with established medical procedures and operational principles. The role involves providing guidance, advocacy, and high-quality health services to adult cancer patients while maintaining professionalism, compassion, and confidentiality.
Responsibilities and Tasks
- Ensure proper pharmaceutical management, including dispensing medications, storage, distribution, inventory, consumption tracking, and data management, in collaboration with the General Manager.
- Verify the accuracy and completeness of prescriptions, and ensure that medications are dispensed appropriately to the beneficiaries and target population.
- Respond to incoming phone calls from cancer patients, actively listening to their concerns and questions, determining the best course of action, and providing appropriate advice and support.
- Develop and maintain relationships with pharmaceutical companies to secure the availability of necessary medications for cancer patients, including grants and medical donations.
- Provide patient education and counseling when appropriate and respond to drug information requests completely, accurately, and in a timely fashion.
- Participate in community outreach initiatives to raise awareness about cancer and promote the services offered by the Center.
- Support the Barbara Nassar Cancer Center team in implementing training sessions, education materials, capacity-building initiatives and other activities.
- Provide technical oversight for data collection processes related to pharmacy operations (in/out, consumption) and ensure accurate data entry into the pharmacy management software (Soft Pharm).
- Mentor and participate in the training and supervision of Pharmacy Technicians and volunteers.
- Represent the association in external pharmacy-related and health-related meetings.
Advocacy, Data Collection and Reporting
- Collaborate with healthcare teams to address and resolve patient grievances, advocating for improved care experiences and outcomes.
- Provide emotional support to patients and their families, guiding them through the healthcare system and connecting them to necessary resources.
- Participate in training provided by the Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) or other international agencies.
- Provide a monthly consumption report to the General Manager in a standardized format.
- Contribute to donor reports and proposals by supplying technical expertise related to pharmacy operations.
To qualify, candidates must:
- Hold a valid pharmacist license with at least 2 years of experience in a pharmacy setting.
- Be fluent in English and Arabic, with strong speaking, reading, and writing skills.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft applications as well as other needed software and databases.
- Motivation and patience to support and improve the lives of cancer patients.
