BLN Teacher

Basmeh & Zeitooneh is a registered Lebanese organization, committed to serving refugees and vulnerable communities in Lebanon, through four community centers across the country. The organization runs educational, relief, livelihoods, and protection programs, and aims to serve as an inclusive and supportive focal point for the entire community.

Job Purpose: Working on the provision of education to refugee children out of school or at risk of dropping out from the formal education system to be referred to the ALP program.

Reporting To: BLN Coordinator

Major Activities : 

  • The Basic Literacy and Numeracy (BLN) program will follow the unified curriculum and Standard Operating Procedures developed by the Lebanese Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MEHE).
  • Enrolling students in the educational program, including placement tests if appropriate
  • Preparation of classes based on the curriculum
  • Teaching according to the student's educational needs and abilities, including a focus on interactive learning, and following the Code of Conduct and Child Protection Policy at all times
  • Development of a curriculum plan, to track the progress of the curriculum in each cycle of the project
  • Providing input on the curriculum, including developing the curriculum was required and with the support of the Academic Supervisor.
  • Setting and adapting objectives for each class
  • Preparing learning material, games, and activities for the classes as necessary, making use of the materials and equipment available 
  • Preparing examinations and recording results
  • Recording attendance of the students in each class, and following up with those who do not attend
  • Communicating with the students/parents of students where necessary
  • Monitoring the general progress of the class and reporting back to the Project Manager where necessary
  • Setting class rules at the start of the course
  • Encouraging students of all levels, promoting their progress and wellbeing, and creating a positive atmosphere in the classroom
  • Making referrals to the protection team
  • Attendance of meetings, training, and workshops
  • Providing input to the Coordinator and Academic Supervisor about required materials for the classes
  • such as registration and outreach, as required.

Responsibilities with the Protection team:

  • Ensure quality and minimum child protection standards are implemented and respected in all activities, including the child safeguarding policy;
  • Ability to identify at-risk cases and refer them to the social workers in the learning center.
  • Identify and refer cases of children/beneficiaries who are identified to have any protection risks.
  • Monitor and report any incident that happens.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelors’ Degree or other appropriate academic qualification related to the teaching subject, or in education or teaching, or another relevant field
  • At least two years of experience in teaching
  • Advanced knowledge in the subject being taught
  • Excellent teaching skills
  • Knowledge of interactive learning
  • Classroom management skills
  • Ability to communicate with people from different backgrounds
  • Ability to work with difficult cases
  • Organizational and time management skills
  • Knowledge of safe referrals is a plus
  • Adherence to B&Z’s policies and procedures
