Field Officer - Beirut

Job Purpose : The Field Officer will collaboratively work with the project manager and key functions including Grants Management, Municipalities, and relevant members of the community to ensure that hydroponics and food processing training is accessible, impactful, and supports the long-term goals of improving agricultural and food processing practices within the target communities.

Targeted Area : Beirut - Al Karantina

Major Activities: 

A) Outreach & Stakeholder Coordination

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Establish and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders, including community centers’ focal points in the targeted area.
  • Target Audience Identification: Work with local leadership and stakeholders to identify potential individuals interested in the training program, ensuring inclusion and community relevance.
  • Community Outreach: Conduct door-to-door and/or phone calls outreach activities with the support of daily workers.
  • Community Committees: Collaborate with steering committees and community committees to ensure the project aligns with local needs and objectives.

B) Training Coordination

  • Training Sessions Planning & Execution: Coordinate the implementation of both theoretical and practical training sessions related to hydroponics, food processing, and sustainable agricultural practices.
  • Logistical Coordination: Ensure that all necessary equipment, training materials, and resources are available for smooth execution of the training.
  • Facilitator Liaison: Coordinate with facilitators and trainers, ensuring that they are prepared and supported to deliver high-quality training content.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation: Monitor the progress of the training, track participant attendance, ensure adequate documentation, and assess participant feedback to improve future sessions.
  • Compliance: Ensure all activities comply with relevant safety and environmental regulations and best practices in hydroponics and food processing.

C) Community Engagement & Committees

  • Community and Steering Committees Coordination: Facilitate regular meetings with the steering and community committees to review the progress, identify
  • challenges, develop solutions for improvement, and circulate minutes of meeting amongst attendees.
  • Training Feedback Collection: Gather feedback from participants and stakeholders during and after each training session to ensure continuous improvement and impact.
  • Reporting: Prepare regular progress reports, documenting training activities, outcomes, and community involvement, and share with relevant stakeholders.

D) Documentation & Reporting

  • Training Documentation: Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of the training activities, including participant lists, materials used, attendance sheets, and evaluations.
  • Production Monitoring: Document and report on the production inside the hydroponics systems and open farming projects, tracking yield, challenges, and successes.
  • People Management : The Field Officer is responsible for effectively managing a small team of 2 to 3 daily workers who support outreach activities and training facilitation.

Key Performance Indications:

  • Outreach plan and materials for community engagement.
  • Schedule and logistics plan for the theoretical and practical training sessions.
  • Regular progress reports on training activities and participant engagement.
  • Final report documenting project outcomes, lessons learned, and recommendations for future initiatives.
  • Records of hydroponics and food production activities and outcomes

Education & Experience :

  • Bachelor’s degree in project management, food science or agriculture, community development, or related fields.
  • Experience: At least 2-3 years of experience in project coordination, community outreach, or agricultural training programs, with a focus on sustainable farming and/or food processing.

Competencies:

Functional:

  • Strong project coordination skills are compulsory
  • Knowledge of hydroponics systems and food processing techniques (preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of core humanitarian standards
  • Computer proficiency in word processing, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English

  • Strong critical analysis and problem-solving skills;
  • Good Communication and effective facilitation skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team
  • Good organizational and time management skills
