Reports To: FSL Program Manager
Jobs Purpose: The Food Security & Livelihoods Project Manager for Livestock is a key role responsible for planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating livestock-related projects aimed at improving the food security and livelihoods of targeted communities. This position requires a strong background in livestock management, project management, community engagement, and the ability to collaborate with various stakeholders.
Major Activities :
- Project Planning and Design:
- Develop and refine project plans for livestock-related interventions, considering the needs and priorities of the target communities.
- Design appropriate livestock-focused interventions, such as animal husbandry training, veterinary services, fodder production, and animal health management.
- Tracking progress of distributed livestock
- Project Implementation:
- Oversee the timely and effective implementation of livestock projects in accordance with the approved project plans.
- Coordinate with field staff, partners, and community members to ensure smooth project execution.
- Provide technical guidance on livestock management best practices to field teams and beneficiaries.
- Monitoring and Evaluation:
- Establish monitoring and evaluation frameworks to track the progress and impact of livestock interventions.
- Regularly collect data, analyze trends, and prepare reports on project outcomes.
- Use monitoring data to make informed decisions for project adjustments and improvements.
- Capacity Building:
- Conduct training sessions for community members and project staff on livestock management techniques, animal health, and income-generating activities.
- Strengthen the technical capacities of local partners and community members to ensure sustainable project outcomes.
- Community Engagement:
- Collaborate closely with community leaders, local authorities, and stakeholders to ensure project alignment with community needs and aspirations.
- Promote community participation in project activities and decision-making processes.
- Resource Management:
- Manage project budgets, ensuring efficient allocation of resources for livestock-related activities.
- Coordinate procurement of necessary materials, equipment, and services related to livestock interventions.
- Reporting and Documentation:
- Prepare regular project reports for donors, management, and other stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate records of project activities, expenses, and outcomes.
- Coordination and Networking:
- Represent the organization in relevant livelihoods-livestock-focused forums, workshops, and meetings.
Collaborate with other organizations, government agencies, and experts to leverage resources and knowledge for project success.
People Management:
- Supervise and conduct orientation and necessary inductions for new team members as necessary and conduct performance appraisals.
- Identify any gaps or capacity needs within the team and ensures training and capacity building is incorporated into program planning.
- Promote accountability, communicate expectations, and provide constructive feedback informally and formally via regular one-on-ones and performance reviews.
- Create and sustain a work environment of mutual respect where team members strive to achieve excellence and grow as individuals and as a team according to B&Z culture.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in agriculture, animal science, rural development, or a related field.
- Proven experience (5 years) in managing and implementing livestock-related projects in development or humanitarian contexts.
- Strong understanding of animal husbandry, animal health, and livestock management practices.
- Excellent project management skills, including planning, budgeting, and reporting.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with diverse teams and communities.
- Experience in community engagement, participatory approaches, and capacity building.
- Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and reporting tools.
- Familiarity with relevant donor guidelines and reporting requirements.
