Senior Research Officer

The Senior Research Officer will focus on researching political and social issues facing displaced people and the host community, and on developing advocacy strategies, position papers, and other written materials. 

Tasks include but are not limited to:

• Contributing to the development and delivery of successful research projects through background research, policy review and  field research in and around Basmeh and Zeitooneh’s community centers in Shatila, Nabaa, , Bar Elias, and Tripoli, and on a regional level
• Monitoring political and human rights-related developments in Lebanon and the region to identify potential advocacy opportunities
• Contributing to the development and implementation of issue-specific advocacy strategies
• Contributing to the development of Basmeh and Zeitooneh’s long-term advocacy strategy 
• Attending and organizing advocacy events, workshops and conferences
• Establishing new partnerships and seeking new funding opportunities

Education and Experience Required

• Master’s degree in a social science, international relations or law
• Two years of professional experience in a related field
• Previous experience in the humanitarian sector, particularly research

Required Competencies

• Fluency in English and Arabic (written and spoken) is essential
• Demonstrated experience with qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis methodologies
• Excellent writing skills
• Analytical skills and the capability to work in a precise, structured and detailed manner
• Demonstrated knowledge of the Syrian political and socio-economic situation
• Demonstrated creativity, ability to apply innovative thinking and problem-solving skills
• Excellent interpersonal, presentation and public speaking skills and sensitivity in communicating with people from different backgrounds 
• Ability to plan, multi-task and manage time effectively
