Context & Background
Berytech is a leading organization in the Entrepreneurial Eco-system in Lebanon, that aims to provide a conducive environment for the creation and development of startups, through incubation, business support, counseling, funding, networking, and the company hosting, hence taking part in the economic revival of the country, participating in wealth and job creation, and retaining graduates and high-level skills in Lebanon.
Through the Clyntech Accelerator Program, startups receive support to develop their Minimum Viable Product, test it with early adopters, and build their capacity to establish their business from marketing, financial, management and operational levels. The Program aims to contribute to job creation and sustainable economic development while advancing the Lebanese entrepreneurial ecosystem.
The Clyntech Accelerator Program's mission is to nurture and grow proof of concepts, and prototypes that share three common characteristics:
- An innovation with scientific or technological focus in the Cleantech sector.
- The possibility to scale beyond the local market
- The potential to create sustainable job opportunities locally
Scope of work
The Accelerator Program seeks an Environmental expert to deliver one 3-hour workshop on environmental Impact Assessment and 2 one-on-one sessions for up to 13 startups covering the following:
- Overview of environmental studies and tools (EIA, ESIA, IEE, EIS, EA, ESMP).
- Introduction to EIA (definition, principles, purpose, evolution).
- Benefits, uses, and success factors of EIA studies.
- Legislative and institutional framework (international and local laws, compliance, permitting, authorities involved).
- Process and key components (screening, scoping, impact assessment, mitigation, monitoring and reporting).
- Stakeholder engagement methods and importance.
- Key outcomes of EIA (legal compliance, impact identification, mitigation, decision-making, consultation, documentation).
- Case studies of successful EIA implementation.
- Challenges, criticisms, and strategies for improvement.
- Overview of the future trends (climate change considerations, new technologies, regulatory shifts).
And during the one-on-ones the expert will:
- Provide tailored advice on EIA frameworks, processes, and sector-specific requirements (industrial, agricultural, healthcare, etc.).
- Guide the startups on environmental compliance and best practices.
- Support them in identifying potential environmental risks and mitigation measures.
Expected Deliverables
- One 3-hour Workshop on Sustainability Environmental Impact Assessment
- Up to two one-on-one sessions for 13 startups (total of 26 sessions) to be delivered.
- Workshop material (PowerPoint presentation) and tools.
- Feedback on the progress of each startup after each clinic
- Final report on each startup
Qualifications
- Experience working with early-stage startups
- Demonstrated expertise and practical experience in conducting Environmental Impact Assessments, particularly within the context of Cleantech projects.
- Proven track record of delivering engaging workshops and providing tailored guidance to startup founders or entrepreneurs
- Familiarity with the startup ecosystem and understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities faced by Cleantech startups.
- Strong communication skills and ability to effectively convey complex concepts in a clear and accessible manner.
