Freelance Writer - DAWERR Activity

Context & Background  

Berytech is a leading organization in the Entrepreneurial Ecosystem in Lebanon, that aims to provide a conducive environment for the creation and development of startups, through incubation, business support, counseling, funding, networking, and the company hosting, hence taking part in the economic revival of the country, participating in wealth and job creation, and retaining graduates and high-level skills in Lebanon.  

This position will support the projects ran by Berytech under the DAWERR Activity, a 5-year Activity funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) with the goal to establish sustainable and replicable integrated solid waste diversion and valorization solutions in rural areas of Lebanon. 

Scope of work 

The DAWERR Activity team seeks a freelance writer (we are targeting independent writers only) to deliver the following:

Produce a total of 12 editorial articles covering specific topics identified and shared by the Communication and outreach department of Berytech.

3 Long form, Analytical Sector Overview articles, taking a deep dive into a specific angle in the Sustainable Waste Management industry

9 Zoom Ins, profiling a specific startup, telling its story, highlighting its solution and challenges in the Lebanese context

Expected Deliverables  

Key Deliverables: 

• Produce a total of 12 articles as per the deadlines of the C&O Department
• Research industry-related topics (combining online sources, interviews and studies)
• Conduct interviews with industry experts, startups and SMEs to gather information
• Produce clear articles to promote startups and their solutions
• Write articles to bring awareness on certain topics related to waste management and recyclables
• Ensure all-around consistency (style, fonts, images and tone)
• Coordinate on topics and outlines with the designated editor from the Berytech team
• Go through multiple review rounds with the Berytech team to finalize the articles
• Suggest and provide visuals (photos or videos) for every article produced

Qualifications  

• Proven work experience as content writer or journalist (a minimum of 5 years in content creation and copy editing)
• Portfolio of long form analytical content, specifically sector overviews
• Previous experience in the entrepreneurship, waste management topic or related topics
• Digital content production and SEO knowledge and proven experience
• Experience doing research using multiple sources
• Experience in copy editing and proofreading to deliver correct content
• Track record of Excellent English writing and editing skills
• Ability to meet deadlines
