Senior Fab Lab Coordinators (GIL Fab Lab North and GIL Fab Lab South)

Context & Background

The Generation of Innovation Leaders (GIL) program is an initiative by UNICEF aimed at empowering youth in Lebanon through access to innovative, technical, and entrepreneurial opportunities. As part of this mission, GIL and Berytech has established a joint initiative: GIL Fab Labs, a digital fabrication network across the country to provide youth with hands-on training in digital fabrication, design thinking, and product development.

The Senior Fab Lab Coordinator will play a central role in ensuring the smooth functioning of the Fab Labs, combining operational management with technical support, community engagement, and outreach.

Scope of Work

The Senior Fab Lab Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Fab Lab, maintaining its technical infrastructure, supporting users, and leading communication and outreach efforts to grow a vibrant community of makers, innovators, and partners. The coordinator should also have strong communication skills, including drafting emails, engaging with partners, and managing social media presence.

Responsibilities

  1. Fab Lab Management & Coordination
  • Supervise and manage all aspects of the Fab Lab’s daily operations.
  • Maintain and update lab infrastructure, equipment, and software.
  • Schedule and organize lab activities, workshops, and training sessions.
  • Ensure safety protocols and cleanliness of the space.
  • Maintain inventory of materials, consumables, and spare parts.
  1. Technical Support & Maintenance
  • Provide technical assistance in digital fabrication processes (3D printing, laser cutting, CNC milling, vinyl cutting, electronics, etc.).
  • Troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, and inspect lab machines and PCs infrastructure.
  • Support users in file preparation, machine setup, manufacturing, and post-processing.
  • Train and supervise users and volunteers in proper equipment use.

C. Community Engagement & Outreach

  • Promote the Fab Lab through events, open days, and collaborations.
  • Reach out to potential partners, organizations, and stakeholders.
  • Draft and send professional emails to coordinate visits and partnerships.
  • Assist in the development of proposals, reports, and presentations.

D. Social Media & Communication

  • Manage Fab Lab social media accounts and online presence.
  • Create and share engaging content (photos, videos, stories).
  • Respond to online inquiries and boost digital visibility.
  • Coordinate with communication teams on collaborations and outreach.

E. Design and Modeling Software support

    • CAD tools: Fusion 360, SolidWorks, Rhino, AutoCAD..
    • 2D design: Illustrator, CorelDRAW, photoshop
    • CAM software: VCarve, Cura..

F. Electronics and Programming Basics support

    • Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and basic microcontroller setup
    • Basic circuits, soldering, sensors, and actuators
    • Programming knowledge: Arduino IDE, Python (basic)

Required Qualifications and Skills

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Design, or related STEAM fields.
  • Certification in Digital Fabrication (e.g., Fab Academy) is a strong asset.

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years managing or working in a Fab Lab, makerspace, or similar environment.
  • Proven experience in digital fabrication, prototyping, and technical maintenance.
  • Experience with social media and communications is a plus.
  • Proven experience in leading events, workshops, or youth engagement initiatives is highly desirable.

Language:

  • Fluency in Arabic and English (verbal and written); French is a plus.

Skills:

  • Strong hands-on and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Customer service orientation and leadership skills.
  • Organizational and project management abilities.
  • Proficiency in digital design software and fabrication tools.
  • Excellent communication, writing, and outreach abilities.
