Storytelling and Puppet-Making for Psychosocial Support Consultant

About Borderless NGO:

Borderless NGO is an independent nonprofit organization committed to creating life-changing impact for underprivileged children, youth, and women by harnessing the power of humanity across borders. Our mission is rooted in the belief that all individuals have the power to transform their circumstances when provided with the right motivation, skills, and networks.
We aim to combat modern-day exploitation and equip marginalized communities with tools for a better future. By focusing on inclusive, community-driven approaches, we work to strengthen socio-economic fabrics and drive long-term, collective change.

About the YALLA Initiative:

The YALLA – Youth Approaches for Learning, Leadership & Advocacy initiative centers youth and community voices in the process of social transformation. Through its psychosocial and cultural programming, YALLA creates inclusive and creative spaces—such as Storytelling and Puppet-Making Circles—where youth explore identity, resilience, and shared experience through narrative and art.

About the Storytelling and Puppet-Making Circles:

As part of the YALLA Initiative, the Storytelling and Puppet-Making Circles create inclusive, creative spaces for youth to explore identity, resilience, and shared experiences. By combining the rich tradition of oral storytelling with the expressive power of puppetry, these circles offer participants unique ways to process emotions, confront challenges, and articulate their journeys. Designed especially for youth from marginalized and displaced communities, the program promotes psychosocial well-being, community connection, and personal expression.

About the Role:

The storytelling and puppet-making consultant will design and deliver a five-day in-person training for youth animators, followed by three mentoring sessions. This role combines creative arts with psychosocial support (PSS), equipping animators to facilitate community sessions that encourage healing, inclusion, and emotional expression. Using trauma-sensitive and participatory methodologies, the consultant will build animator capacity in storytelling, puppet-making, and safe facilitation practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement a five-day participatory training curriculum integrating storytelling, puppet-making, and PSS principles.
  • Facilitate creative, trauma-sensitive activities that encourage youth engagement and emotional safety.
  • Support animators in developing original scenarios addressing themes like displacement, identity, exclusion, peer relationships, and resilience.
  • Produce easy-to-use training materials and sample scripts/scenarios for future use.
  • Conduct three follow-up support sessions to mentor animators during early implementation.
  • Submit a final report summarizing training outcomes, participant feedback, and recommendations.

Expected Deliverables:

  • Complete five-day training agenda and session plans.
  • Handouts, guides, and puppet-making instructions for animators.
  • A scenario resource pack with at least six sample scripts.
  • Delivery of five-day training and three follow-up mentoring sessions.
  • Final report detailing outcomes and insights.

Required Qualifications:

  • Degree in applied arts, theater, psychology, social work, education, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in creative arts programming with a psychosocial or community focus.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead participatory, trauma-sensitive training for youth workers or facilitators.
  • Strong knowledge of youth development and community-based work, particularly in Lebanon.
  • Fluency in Arabic; proficiency in English is desirable.
  • Proven ability to translate complex concepts into engaging and practical tools for non-specialists.
